  1. Dr. Chávez Chávez Discusses Item IV of Agenda:

-Villalpando declined; has new position in California.

-Spoke with Dean Pope Davis-Gave Dr. Chávez Chávez reality; not doing well with money. Solorzano, although highly recommended, not asked due to budget constrictions. Dr. Chávez Chávez asked around, Dr. Julia So was recommended. After visit to website, and after many committee members responded, Dr. Chávez Chávez spoke to So. Dr. So sent survey; she and Dr. Chávez Chávez dialogued. Dr. So provided feedback on survey. Connected Dr. Osanloo and Dr. Reyes article tenets with the DTF-created survey.

  1. Dr. Chávez Chávez Reviews Exhibits One through Four, DTF Surveys Sent to Dr. Julia So (One, Three), returned by So (Two, Four):

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-All this language can be found in the minutes. The Likert scale questions, there it is. That’s exhibit number one. That will be in the minutes, as of today. Then, exhibit two. This is what so provided. For example, look at question number 3. Dr. So went through all three and did an analysis. She’s very good. This replaces number three. She combined, and then explained how she did the process. She did that with each of those. I returned to her, I also verified everything we had in our original document, and connected it. It’s all there. Number three, …(Dr. Chávez Chávez read question) mind you, notice how she kept our questions in mind consistently. Both she and Dr. Villalpando were diplomat and helpful. She helped us refine the questions, but still helped us keep our question integrity.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-Highlighted is what Dr. So added. All this is gender and identity. That is diversity. She is all-inclusive, so she covers all the bases.

  • Dr. Chávez Chávez reviews entirety of So-edited survey (Exhibit Two). Read So feedback, highlighted in yellow on Exhibit Two. Disseminated various So feedback.
  • Dr. Chávez Chávez shows Exhibit Three:

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-So now she’s asking for clarification. She desegregated the questions so she could know how we respond. She decided to include the green part. She went to the ADA. The green ones were the questions she felt were important, to include a holistic survey.

  • Dr. Chávez Chávez Shows Exhibit Four:

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-This is the one that will be sent to you. Do you have any questions?

 Dr. Haynes Writer-Can you go back to the faith affiliation question?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-There it is. (Committee reviews.)

  • Dr. Chávez Chávez Reviews each question of Exhibit Four.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-Any comments? (After each question)

 Dr. Ramdoss-Who is this survey for?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-This is for us, the DTF. (Cha reviews the rest of survey.)

 Dr. Haynes Writer-Why did she use faith affiliation?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -She wanted to keep it as general as possible. Any concerns?

 Dr. Haynes Writer-To me, faith affiliation seems very westernized.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-Okay, how about changing it to “faith affiliation and/or spiritual traditions”? How’s that?

 Dr. Haynes Writer-Maybe a plural on faith traditions.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-Okay. Any questions? (none). Veterans. We didn’t take this into account, but we need to. (Chair went over #6). She wants a good reading from us. (Read #7). -(Changed “hinder” to “hindered” per Dr. Adams suggestion.)

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -Go ahead and read 8 and 9.

 Torres Fernández-I can divide the top questions, and my interpretation.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -She wanted us to be very specific, so that we can get to the holistic of this committee, of our work. Anything with numbers 8 and 9? 10? (No responses.) I’m moving on. (Read 11). There’s numbers 11 and 12. (No responses.) This is for faculty members only (13 and 14). Because we didn’t touch upon that in our initial survey.

 Ms. Arrieta-Maybe we should include that…answering those…it’s not going to be anonymous. -Demographic question changed to “Please indicate whether you are faculty, staff or student.”

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -I’ll explain to Dr. So that this is the bidding of the committee. We will place it in the Dropbox for posterity.

 Dr. Haynes Writer-I have a question on 13. Does that include pedagogy?...And do we have policy and procedures included as well.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -That’s a good question. Where would we include it?

 Dr. Haynes Writer-Do you embrace diversity practices? I’m thinking with students, I’m thinking would the practice be equitable for our practice…I’m not familiar with this…does anybody see where this would be subsumed…

 Ms. Gavit-Can you roll up to number one? In it you can also put in here someplace? Are the policies and procedures…

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-I’m going to scroll down slowly… (Scrolled down for committee to review). There is it (in #7). Okay, any further comments or questions? (none). I would like a motion to approve survey.

 Ms. López Askin-Motioned.

 Ms. Rodriguez Strawn-seconded. -Approved and saved by Dr. Chávez Chávez

  1. Dr. Chávez Chávez goes to IV-Retreat Update. Asks Ms. Salazar for Update:

 Ms. López Askin-I can give an update. Theyre’ in Sf, but it sounds promising.

 Ms. Salazar-I do have an email in to Ida to fund our retreat.

 Ms. Gavit-When are the sruveys going out?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez-I will send them out today.

 Dr. Ramdoss-Is it on survey monkey?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -No, it is a doc. You can return it to her. -Committee agrees to fill out and return survey to Dr. So.

  • Dr. Chávez Chávez goes over “Initial Considerations” draft.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -If you can please look at this, and study it. And give me feedback, and I’ll take it from there. Maria Elena and I will take it from there…

 Dr. Fernández Torres-Can we put it in the Dropbox, and make changes from there?

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -okay,we can do that. Any other questions?

 Dr. Ramdoss-since it’s [the survey] anonymous …

 Ms. Gavit-Since we’re sending it to someone outside the uniservity it will be anonymous.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -That is our baseline [Referring to the “Initial Considerations” document].

 Ms. López Askin-the Dean mentioned a diversity statement.

 Dr. Chávez Chávez -Here it is. But that’s core values. The statement is our work. I studied this survey several times, but I do need your feedback. When you do the survey yourselves, see what you think, if this could be given to the COE students also-in the future-also for our faculty and staff.

  1. Dr. Chávez Chávez Motions for Adjournment:

 Dr. Haynes Writer-motioned.

 Ms. Arrieta-Seconded.

  • Adjourned: 10:23 a.m.
