Job Description

Bright Futures Educational Trust (BFET) is a partnership of schools based in the North West. This role is critical to deliver this vision in Cedar Mount Academy and is a key member of the Academy Support Team, reporting into the Principal, with a dotted line to the Trust’s Head of Human Resources.

The role holder will be expected to provide telephone and at times face to face support to other BFET schools, as and when required.

Key purpose of the role

The post holder will be a part or fully CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) qualified HR professional and be responsible for HR advice and support to the academy’s leadership team. All advice will be driven by BFET’s values, Academy policies, employment legislation, best practise and above all, be in the best interests of the pupils.

All members of Academy staff are expected to be a professional and active member of the Academy community working as part of the team to raise standards, improve outcomes and opportunities for all students and promote a lifelong love of learning.

Specific Responsibilities

1. HR Advice

  • Establish and keep up to date monitoring systems for absence management and performance management and act upon the information.
  • Ensure that appropriate informal and formal meetings and external referrals (e.g. occupational health) take place in accordance with the relevant HR policies and employment legislation e.g. sickness, disciplinary, capability and provide advice to the chairing manager on process and outcomes.
  • Attend all formal meetings as the HR adviser and ensure that all records of these meetings are accurate and retained.
  • Advise on restructures and reorganisations with the support of the Head of HR.
  • Provide appropriate reports and recommendations to the Academy’s Leadership Team and/or the Trust relating to HR matters.
  • Provide academy staff with advice and guidance on all Academy staff related policies.
  • Provide the leadership team with feedback and support in improving employee engagement levels at the Academy.
  • Identify the need for and deliver training interventions for people managers in HR skills and knowledge, with the support of the Head of HR.

2. Recruitment and Selection

  • Manage all recruitment process for the Academy and ensure that the process meets all safe recruitment guidelines, regulations and best practise. To include:
  • Clarifying the exact role requirements
  • Placing of adverts and/or identifying appropriate attraction methods.
  • Collating applications received for appropriate interview panel members to shortlist.
  • Arranging the selection process (including obtaining teaching topic and appropriate class data for candidates).
  • Checking Candidates ID and qualifications.
  • Requesting and chasing references.
  • Sending all correspondence to candidates.
  • Liaising with successful candidate regarding all paperwork required to commence employment, including DBS checks
  • Liaise with agencies to identify supply resources as and when needed
  • Work in conjunction with the cover manager to ensure cover is available for teacher absences

3. HR Administration

  • To maintain and ensure accuracy of the Academy single Central record
  • Maintain and update accurate records of holiday entitlement and extra hours worked.
  • Keep and store accurate HR records of all staff details including terms and conditions of employment, pay scales, absence, formal meeting outcomes, in accordance with Data Protection requirements and any other relevant regulations.
  • Monitor thatannual appraisals and pay reviews are conducted in accordance with policy and that annual staff salary statement for all teaching staff are produced by the payroll provider and distributed on time.
  • Administer the SIMS system to ensure up to date and accurate staff employment and sickness data is held.
  • Administer the outcomes of recruitment decisions by notifying the payroll provider to make payroll changes and produce contractual paperwork.
  • Be the Academy link with the payroll provider to notify of changes e.g. starters, leavers, maternity, pay reviews and to check the accuracy of the payroll each month.
  • Complete the statutory school workforce census as and when required

4. HR Projects

  • From time to time take responsibility for project managing and implementing Trust wide HR initiatives.

  • To use initiative in time management to organise own workload in order to meet deadlines.
  • To provide cover for other administrativecolleagues when required.
  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person as they arise.

  • Play a full part in the life of the Academy, to support its distinctive mission and ethos.
  • Attend Academy events and activities as directed by the Principal

Experience, qualifications and training /
  • A minimum of five GCSEs, including maths and English
  • Part or fully qualified CIPD member
  • Demonstrable experience across a range of HR activities
  • Experience of organising and administrating HR matters
  • Demonstrable experience of advising and acting in accordance with employment legislation and other relevant compliance requirements e.g. data protection, safeguarding

Terms and conditions for the post

Salary: NJC scale points 37-41 (Actual range based on contract type: £28,460 - £31,871) dependent
upon experience
Hours: 35 per week over 5 days. Term time only contract, with an additional 15 days to be
worked at agreed times during school holidays.
Contract type: Permanent with a six month probationary period
Place of work: Cedar Mount Academy, Gorton M18 7DT, with flexibility to travel to and work from any
BFET school
Pension: Local Government Pension scheme
