NJ TRANSIT IS LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCED ELECTRICIANS

DESCRIPTION:

  1. An Electrician conducts general and specialized maintenance and repair on various types of equipment including installation, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, lighting systems, door systems, and automatic train control systems.
  2. Training as an Electrician, Electronic Technician or Electrical Engineer and an Electrical Apprenticeship is suggested if one desires to become an Electrician.
  3. Applicants interested in this position must be able to pass NJ Transit’s Electrician Aptitude Test.
  4. The salary range is $23.47 - $29.34 per hour
  5. Positions are located at any of NJ TRANSIT’s rail yards within the states of NJ, NY and PA. Travel may be necessary. Note: Please see our Rail System Maps on NJTransit.com

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Three (3)years of construction experience in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of commercial or industrial electrical wiring, or formal training and work experience in the field of electronics.
  3. Must be able to work all shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
  4. Required to know how to use Multi Meter, Megger and Hi Pot Test Equipment.
  5. Must complete background check which includes criminal, former employer, social security, license and proof of graduation and reference checks.
  6. If you are a current NJ Transit employee, your work records covering a three (3) year period will be reviewed, i.e. attendance, safety, disciplinary records, etc. A review form will be forwarded to your current supervisor for completion.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  1. Ability to read schematics & wiring diagrams.
  2. Knowledge of HVAC support systems.
  3. Trouble-shooting skills.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment test.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ELECTRICIAN B

PROBATION:

The first one hundred and twenty (120) days of your employment with NJ TRANSIT are a probationary period.

JOINING THE UNION:

This position is covered by a labor agreement. You are required to join the labor union that represents the employees in this craft.

BID & BUMP PROVISION:

Seniority provisions of this labor agreement may result in your being displaced by an employee with greater seniority, which could result in your having to move to a job at a different work location, shift, or rate of pay or in your being laid off by NJ TRANSIT.

RAILROAD RETIREMENT:

You will be covered under the Railroad Retirement Act that has a Tier 1 and Tier II payroll deduction schedule. The Tier II is an additional deduction of 4.9% of your gross salary.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The selection process for the Electrician position will include the following:

  1. Passing score on NJ Transit’s ElectricianAptitude Test.
  2. Panel interviews with representatives from Rail Mechanical and Strategic Staffing Departments.
  3. If hired, ability to “qualify” after initial training period. Candidates will be on a probationary period for the first one hundred and twenty(120) days.
