INTRODUCTION:
Nirmala Sadan is an Institute dedicated for the education, research and rehabilitation of persons with mental retardation. The TrainingCollege is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India and assisted by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India. The D.Ed Special Education (MR) course (previously known as Diploma in Special Education (MR)) was started in the year 1990. The intake capacity of the course is 30 seats. The course prepares the students to work as special Educator in SpecialSchool, in Special class situation in regular schools and also to work in integrated set up in regular schools.
OVERALL AIM AND GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To prepare special teachers at pre-primary (Nursery, Kindergarten etc.) and primary (1 to IV – lower primary and V to VII - upper primary) levels to serve in the following settings:
i)Special schools
ii)Integrated/inclusive setup
iii)Itinerant programmes
Knowledge Related Objectives:
To build adequate knowledge in the following areas:
1)Various aspects of disability, its impact and management
2)Key aspects of education like goals, function, technology and emerging
trends.
3)Educational needs of the children with disability and their management
4)Details of planning and executing curricular and co-curricular activities
5)Methods and techniques of teaching schools subjects
6)Various areas of child development and the relevant mental processes
7)To be able to see the above mentioned aspects in the light of Indian context.
Skill Related Objectives:
To develop skills and competencies in the following areas:
- Personal, professional and social competencies and skills required in
teachers
- Subject teaching as per requirement
- Development and adaptation of instructional materials
- Evaluation of the students, teacher and the educational programme
- Planning and executing lessons (individualized and group)
- Classroom management techniques
- Individual and group parent interaction
ELIGIBILITY
Students who have passed 10+2 or equivalent with 50% marks in any stream are eligible for the course. Relaxation of marks as per Govt. instructions.
Reservation of seats for SC/ST candidates and persons with disabilities will be as per Central Government Rules.
JOINING AND SUBMISSION OF CERTIFICATES
This is a course of two academic years during which period the selected candidates cannot to pursue any other course. Selected candidates should join the course by the stipulated date. At the time of joining the course, the selected candidate will have to produce (a) bond to the effect that the admitted candidate will not discontinue the course and (b) medical certificate – of fitness from a Civil Surgeon declaring the state of health.

The intake for each year of the course will be30.

DURATION OF THE COURSE
The duration of the course will be two years (four semesters)(220 days consisting of 1320 hours) each year thus having a total of 440 days consisting of 2640 hours for theory and practicum.

The course will be offered through semester or any other pattern as directed by RCI from time to time.

As per RCI’S Scheme of Examination.

Hostel accommodation to outstation candidates will be provided subject to availability on first come first served basis.

EXAMINATION
There will be two internal examinations in each semester.
MINIMUM FOR PASS AND AWARDS OF DIPLOMA
Candidates obtain 40% pass marks in each Theory and 50% in each practical paper separately in internal and external assessments.
CLASS DECLARATION
75% and above- Distinction
60 – 74.9%- First Division
50 – 59.9 %- Second Division
40 – 49.9 %- Pass Class
No class shall be awarded in the 1st year Examination. Class will be awarded on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by a candidate in 1st year and 2nd year Examination in Theory and Practical combined.
Discipline
The candidates admitted shall be subjected to strict discipline inside and outside the campus and also in the hostel where accommodation is provided. The candidates are expected to maintain decorum, decency and discipline throughout their pursuance of the course with the staff, faculty and other supporting workers. The hostlers should follow the prescribed rules in the hostel. Infringement or violation of rules shall result in rustication from the hostel for period as decided by the management of the institute. Use of mobile phones cinematic dance and fashion show in the campus is strictly prohibited.
Ragging
Ragging is a crime prohibited under law. Anyone found indulging in the act of ragging will be punished by management and the law enforcing authorities.
