Steven Gore enjoys the Lakeland Trail at Ullswater on Sunday

The autumn Catforth Canter took place on Sunday morning in high wind but in a gap between ran storms, over the single lap country course from the school. Wesham had a strong contingent in a modest field, Troy Watson in fine form leading the way and finishing 4th with 18:39, placing 1st M45. Having clocked a god time over the first two kilometres the third 1000m was into the teeth of the wind where times slowed considerably. Garry Barnett came in 7th in 19:14, finishing 2nd M45. Catherine Carrdus was 2nd woman behind Lancaster & Morecambe’s Helen Booth, 1st W40 in 19:43. Mark Billington was 2nd M50 and 13th overall in 19:49, a great run. John Bertenshaw was also in good shape finishing 1st M55 and 15th in 20:02 just missing out on that sub-20 minutes in the windy final stretch. George Kennedy was 2nd M55 and 16th overall in 20:56; Alan Hudson 1st M65 and well ahead of the first M60 in 18th place; his time 21:16. Ben Wrigley was 24th with 22:59; Kath Hoyer was 7th woman and just missing out on first W55 to place 23:20 for 28th overall. Dave Waywell was next in with 24:26 to take 1st M70 in 33rd place overall. Dave Young was close behind with 24:29 for 34th place and 5th M65 in a good quality of runners. Phil Leaver was 2nd M60 and 35th in 25:21; Rob Danson Senior was 36th with 26:50 and Sally Deacon was 8th woman and 37th in 26:53. Maureen Danson was 12th woman and 43rd in 29:13, 5th W45.

Lee Barlow ran the Cheshire 10k autumn race on Saturday, finishing 47th in a good quality race clocking 37:02, a fine result. Helen Lawrenson ran 45:50 for 258th place, finishing 23rd woman and 3rd W45. Sara Ward was 46th woman, 5th W50 and 346th with 48:42

Nicola Unsworth ran the Lytham Windmill 10k on Sunday morning in blustery conditions and she finished 2nd woman and 1st W45 with a time of 44:30 in 43rd place overall. Sharon Cooper was 20th woman and 3rd W40 with 49:16 finishing 121st overall.

Nigel Shepherd filled in a gap in the cross country fixtures with a guest run in the Red Rose League at Wilsons Fields in Hyndburn ion Saturday. He finished 139th and 7th M55 in 52:01 for the approximate 10km course, a good run in a competitive field.

Steve Gore ran the Lakeland Trails Ullswater Trail Race at the weekend but so far the full results are not available due to a suspected flooded transponder mat at the finish which is still being sorted out. There are two events, Helvellyn on Saturday which went ahead successfully, but in the Ullswater event on Sunday the stormy weather played havoc with only the first ferry to the start being able to sail, thereby splitting the race into two. Some 117 runners managed the Trail 10k event at 9am but following sailings were cancelled with a further 343 competitors so far recorded in the emergency route 9km trail run.

There were fewer Wesham members than usual running in parkrun events last weekend, perhaps due to the stormy and wet weather. David Taylor ran the Preston parkrun, finishing with a time of 18:35 and an age graded performance of 69.51%. Steve Myerscough, attired in normal running gear this week, ran 20:23 for an M40 performance of 67.95%. In the Bolton parkrun Martin Bates clocked 23:49 for an M55 66.76%.
