JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER

GRADE:Leadership L 11 - 15

RESPONSIBLE TO:Headteacher

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • School leadership
  • Quality of teaching and learning
  • The organisation and development of Scalby as a Teaching School and Research School
  • Staff development
  • Management of whole school events
  • The line management of 2 Faculties.

SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

  • Deputise in the absence of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher
  • Give leadership and contribute to the strategic direction to the school
  • Ensure all deadlines issued to colleagues are met
  • Perform Leadership Team line management and performance management of the Heads of Faculty
  • Attend SLT meetings
  • Contribute to the SLT active patrol and ‘Isolation’ system
  • Represent the school on collaborative activities such as the development of the Scarborough Teaching School Alliance
  • Take responsibility for organising whole school events including parent’s evenings and awards evenings
  • Report to Governors regarding Teaching and learning and Staff development and Teaching School status.

QUALITY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning through quality assurance mechanisms such as formal observation, “drop-ins”, work scrutiny and data analysis
  • Review the impact of work undertaken and feed this into Whole School future planning
  • Lead on and disseminate research and good practice in teaching and learning
  • Lead on the development of good practice in teaching and learning through both individual support and whole school strategies
  • Lead on the school’s application for Research School status and implement the plan in due course.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • Instigate an annual training plan which supports the School Improvement Plan and dovetails with the Performance Management processes
  • Manage the performance management of all staff utilizing the BlueSky database
  • Organise whole school training days
  • Line manage the Professional Tutor to ensure effective staff induction and ITT provision
  • Manage the annual CPD budget
  • Provide individual support for identified member(s) of staff based on specific needs
  • Coordinate the professional development of the learning support, clerical support and technical support staff in consultation with the school Business Manager
  • Publish the Staff Induction pack.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Fulfill all of the requirements and duties set out in the current Pay and Conditions Documents relating to:

  • the conditions of employment of teachers
  • Fulfill all of the responsibilities and duties required by the School’s policies and procedures
  • Achieve any performance criteria or targets related to the management post arising from the School’s
  • Performance Management arrangements
  • Adhere to the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
