Welcome

Thank you for coming to Camden’s community drop-in event to discuss your views on what replacement cladding system should be used for the outside of your blocks.

There are a range of council services and other partners, including the London Fire Brigade, here today,as well a numberof family activities happening around the library and leisure centre. Please see the display boards at the main entrance for information as to what timeeach event will take place.

Next steps on replacing the cladding on your blocks

  • We have identified a number of options for the replacement cladding system and need your feedback to help us decide which is best for your block. This is a complex decisionand we want to hear what is important to you to make sure we get it right.
  • Using the feedback you give us, we will produce a report that will show how we have taken into account your views in making recommendations to cabinetfor the new cladding system. This will be available for all residents to see.
  • The report for cabinet memberswillalso summarise all the technical information we have available on the proposed options and indicate a preferred choice. This will also be in the publically available report.
  • After considering your feedback, the Council will make the final decision on the permanent cladding replacement for your block.
  • The final designs will may then have to go forward through the a planning application process. If the planning application is agreed, the Council will proceed to begin the procurement of the materials for the replacement system and a contractor to complete the work.

Keeping you involved and time scales

We are working with you to find the best solution for your blocks as quickly as possible. This also includes working with national government to fulfil any changes that might occur to building control regulations as a result of the national independent review.

It is possible that elements of the chosen cladding system willchange during the planning process. We will ensure residents are included in this process and that we are transparent about the ultimate decision chosen to go forward as a planning application.

We expect to submit a planning applicationmake a decision on the replacement system by the end of this year in early 2018, if this receives planning permission we hope to start on site later in 2018. How long it takes to start and finish installation the of the cladding takes to install will depend on which system is chosen.

Thank you for coming today – your views and questions are important to us as we continue to develop our proposals.

Thank you for your feedback. This will be considered as part of the Council’s decision-making process for the replacement of the cladding system for the blocks. We expect to make this decision in November 2017 and a public report will outline how resident views contributed to our decision, and why we have made the decision. The option will then have to go through a planning process, and residents will have another opportunity to comment as part of a planning consultation.
