JIMBOUR Q. 4406

Email:

Dear Families,

It is with a slight bitter sweet feeling that I write to you today. Firstly I would like to extend a very warm welcome to William, Thomas, Sarah, Cody, Mikayla and their families to Jimbour. May your time with us be a truly memorable and rewarding experience.

I’d like to share with you all an email that has come from a staff member within our school. I truly appreciate the dedication and commitment of staff here and value their desire and efforts put into the students of this school.

Hi David,

Just thinking about the work I would like the students to complete by the end of term and I'm not sure they will complete it all by the end of next Thursday. The 3-7's have been writing letters in SOSE to the Federal member Bruce Scott and I'd love for them to have them complete so we could send them off. Maybe then they would have a reply by term 2. I also want to finalise assessment and start new units in term 2 so it renews the kids interest. I probably spent more time on Bell Show exhibits than I had originally planned which has resulted in this last minute finish. I think though the school's involvement was worth it. I know you said you would still like me to teach on the final Thursday but would you still consider me swapping a Monday or Tuesday so that I would have all the kids together to finish off all the work? Anyway let me know what you think. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Regards,

Sally.=

My reply,

As Principal of this school can I just say what a pleasure it is to get an email like this. It shows a wonderful commitment to your students but most of all it shows how much you care. As a parent knowing your teacher cares about your child and their learning rates very highly on the list of teacher qualities we like to see. I have arranged a swap so in the last week come in and teach on the Tuesday. It is very likely that Helen McLaren will be with you on that day as well as Kerry. So just use Helen as you wish, she will be a great support for you to get things done. Thanks for caring and for everything you do for the students at Jimbour. Have a great weekend.

Regards

David

What can I say, Sally’s email gives us an example of her professionalism and dedication to the students in her care. It’s not goodbye just yet but thank you Sally you will be sorely missed by staff, parents and students.

With the arrival of our new families I am currently negotiating with HR for extra funding to hopefully support the retention of Mr O’Keefe. Karen Green (currently on maternity leave) has transferred to Bowenville State School so will not be available to replace Sally. We wish her and her family all the best as they relocate to Oakey and I will now seek a replacement teacher for Thursdays.

Warm regards

Classroom News

Hello Families,

Thursday is a busy day for the students this term studying SOSE, The Arts and Technology. Our learning is centred on the book ‘I Grow In Grandad’s Garden’. The students will complete a design challenge based on this book where they get to design their own garden at school but they have to make sure it has a Think and Thank Seat, a Let Go Log, a Cross Over Corner and a Dream Table. I’ll let your children explain to you what they are!

In the Arts students are learning about landscape drawing and painting with attention on perspective, colour, tone and painting techniques. They are using this knowledge to paint their own garden landscape.

SOSE is exploring mapping in regards to reading maps by understanding symbols, keys, scale and direction. We are also looking at 2-D and 3- D maps and are attempting their own bird’s eye view map of their garden plan.

Finally, a new activity we have started this term is a work review at the end of the day. This time is being used to look at students work from Term 1 and reflect on what we did and how we can improve this term’s work. Some suggestions so far for the students have been taking our time to present our very best work, following our plans to produce a great final copy, listening to feedback given by the teachers and trying to explain or give reasons for any answers that have to be given. Feel free to encourage these skills at home even if it is just in regards to completing homework.

The students are completing some great work so feel free to pop in on a Thursday and I’m sure they will be happy to show you what they have been working on.

Regards,

Sally Bidstrup.
