NEWS FROM AXIOM PSYCHOLOGICAL & COACHING SERVICES

Happy New Year! We at Axiom are very excited about two new developments which were briefly mentioned in our Christmas “It’s Axiomatic”.

Neuropsychological services

We became aware that in recent years a gap had arisen in relation to the provision of neuropsychological assessment service available on the Central Coast. Therefore after much thought and deliberation we have decided to offer a comprehensive neuropsychological service to fill the gap. We are very proud and pleased to announce that Melanie Tucker has agreed to join us.

Melanie has a Masters degree in Clinical Neuropsychology and a Graduate Diploma in Health Law. She is WorkCover approved.

Her experience as a Clinical Neuropsychologist is extensive including capacity assessments. She has been called as an expert witness at the Guardianship Tribunal of NSW. She is skilled and competent in the neuropsychological assessment of the many neurological conditions including dementia, traumatic brain injury, motor neurone disease (MND), drug and alcohol dependence, and mental illness. She has worked extensively with adults with Multiple Sclerosis.

Depending on the need and requirements we will be offering a range of neurological assessments.

Our new Intern

Sandy Gilbert is our Provisional Psychologist (Intern). However, she has been a valued member of the Axiom team for a little while. Late last year she successfully designed and ran our first HSC Preparation Program. We will again be offering this program in soon after school resumes.

She is married to Adam who operates his own real estate agency on the Coast. They have two adolescent children. Sandy is a qualified music teacher and an accomplished musician. She graduated from UNE with honours. Her thesis was entitled “The Effectiveness of a Couples Caring Days Program on Caring, Relationship Satisfaction & Positive Affect.”

Together with Adam, Sandy organises the annual “Central Coast Home Expo”, which supports Coast Shelter.

During the 2012 USA Presidential election campaign she was invited to join President Obama’s campaign in Florida.

AHPRA rules present a significant challenge for all intern psychologists because the rule state that 40% of the internship hours must be spent in direct client contact. However Medicare, Workcover, etc rules specifically exclude provisional (intern) psychologists receiving such referrals.

Under supervision Sandy will be happy to see clients, but outside of BAHM, BOMH, Workcover etc. For such private clients we have reduced our fee from $135 (already one of the cheapest on the Coast) to just $50 per consultation, and for some people we will consider a free consultation. We welcome your referrals for Sandy.

Funny bone

How many narcissists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one. All he has to do is to hold it in place while the world revolves around him.

Keep smiling. As always looking forward to working with you and your patients/clients.

Best wishes

The Axiom Team.
