It’s October already. With all the activities in Sept it passed by so quickly. I hope most were able to attend Open House–Curriculum Night, maybe even the last time if your last child is a Senior. Seniors… this means GradKnight will be here before we know so hopefully you’ll join us for the party planning tomorrow night!

Hopefully you already had marked your calendar for the first parent-only part meeting advertised in the Knightline. If it slipped your mind a reminder that it is tomorrow Mon, Oct 5 at 7:30pm (updated time) in the school library.
Come ask questions, see what help we need, or just hear all about the surprise for our seniors.

Student Academic Success Workshop
Space is Still Available!
Student Academic Success Workshop
Could your student benefit from additional academic support?
Could they benefit from strategies and techniques that
would help them be successful in all of their classes?
If the answer to these questions is “YES”, then please sign your student up for the Student Academic Success Workshop Series!
At Newport High School it is our goal to provide our students with the necessary support so that ALL students have the ability to be successful. With that as our focus, we have designed a series of four workshops in October to teach students strategies and techniques to help them better access and comprehend the content in their classes.
WORKSHOP DATES AND TOPICS
October 6th – General Study Strategies
- Techniques for maximizing your study time
- Test Taking Tips
- Time Management Strategies
October 13th – Reading Strategies
- Techniques to increase your reading comprehension
- Tips to connect your textbook reading to the content covered in class.
October 20th – Math Strategies
- Tips to increase your success in math class
- Techniques to help you work effectively in collaborative math groups
- Learn where to find additional resources to support your success in math
October 27th – Writing Strategies
- Learn techniques to improve your writing style
- Tips for citing your sources in MLA style
ALL WORKSHOPS WILL BE IN ROOM 1113 from 3:15 pm – 4:15 pm
Students who sign-up are making a commitment to attend ALL FOUR Workshops.

6th Annual College Conference
District high school students and their parents and guardiansare invited to attend the 2009 Future by Design College Conference. The conference will be presented on Wed, Oct 7th atInterlake and Thur, Oct 8th at Newport, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. See the Bellevue School District website, for more information.

Homecoming Tailgate
Join the fun at the Homecoming tailgate party and then cheer the Knights on to a victory over Eastlake!
Fri, Oct 16th -$8 each person for dinner only, includes hamburger or veggie burger, Caesar salad, cookie, chips and water. Cost of game separate.
Dinner served 5:00pm – 6:30pm. Senior night ceremony @ 6:30pm. Football game @ 7:00pm. Bring the whole family and friends to support our Knights!
Tailgate tickets will be sold during lunch Oct 5th – 12th in the Commons. Proceeds benefit GradKnight 2010.

Parent Survey
The Bellevue School District (BSD) would like parents/guardians to take a brief BSD parent survey. It’s important both to the school board and the administration to get parent feedback on the selected topics contained in the survey. A few hard copies have been sent to each school for parents who would prefer to pick up a copy and submit their completed survey to their school office. They are also working on translating the survey for ESL families who would like to participate. A group of parents who tested out the survey assure us it will only take 5-10 minutes. Results will be published on the BSD website. Access the survey at:

PTSA Directories
PTSA members who did not pick up their directory during Open House can now do so in the Main Office and at the monthly PTSA meetings. Next PTSA meeting is Wed, Oct 28th.

10/08:Newport High School needs volunteers for the College Conference at Newport from 4:30-8:30pm. 4 hours of community service credit.
