1) CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Heather Hart called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. (lunch meeting)

2) ROLL CALL: Members present were: Heather Hart, Newport Beach, Kathleen Pezzetti, Anaheim, Janine Jacobs, Fullerton, Marie Navrotska, Mission Viejo, Marie Twombley, Aliso Viejo, Irma Morales, Orange, Lori Worden, Placentia, and Lucy Salvado, Yorba Linda.

3) PUBLIC COMMENTS: There were no public comments.

4) APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The committee approved the Meeting Minutes from Sept. 23, 2013.

5) CURRENT BUSINESS

A.  Performer’s Showcase – There was a discussion about the upcoming Showcase, which will be Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Lucy received applications from 120 performers; 38 applicants will be performing that day, others will have information available at tables at the Showcase. She is still accepting applications from performers who would like to be included on the performer’s list , but is no longer accepting applications from anyone who wanted to perform that day. The Performer’s Showcase Directory will be available for all who register for the Showcase. A sub-committee from the meeting was formed to meet on Dec. 5 to go through the list of performers and decide who will perform. Janiene will update last year’s Performer’s Showcase flyer, and the new flyer will be sent out to librarians later in the week. Janiene provided information on how to register and pay for the Showcase; information will be included on the flyer. Committee members agreed to help on the day of the showcase: Janiene - M.C.; Marie – time-keeper; performer check-in – Kathleen & Mary P.; Judy & Heather – stage-hands; Lori, Heather, & Lucy – lunch & snacks; Marie & Irma – librarian check-in; Lupita – sound; Amy – door prizes; clean-up – all; John Abrams will be asked to assist with sound.

B.  CLA Attendee Report – Marie T. reported that she attended this year’s conference and mentioned some of the useful workshops she intended.

C.  Library Publicity and Programs – Committee members shared program ideas and flyers from their libraries.

D.  Spring Programming – Committee members shared many program ideas for children and teens that are popular at their libraries.

E.  New Trends for Children’s Services – Members shared information about new trends including technology trends at their libraries, including using ipads for storytimes and other programs. Members also shared their sites for locating downloadable books for children.

F.  Other Business – Janiene announced that Carlene will be working as the SLS secretary, and can be reached at her email address :

G.  Calendar – The committee decided that the next meeting will be March 3, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Aliso Viejo Libray.

6) SLS CHILDREN’S SERVICES COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENTS OR MATTERS WHICH MEMBERS WOULD LIKE PLACED ON A FUTURE AGENDA FOR DISCUSSION, ACTION OR REPORT (NON-DISCUSSION ITEM): Members would like to share Summer Reading program ideas.

7) PUBLIC COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS: None.

8) ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m. The next meeting will be at the Aliso Viejo Library on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
