The Draft Test
The NCA Draft Test is a series of exercises designed to develop and demonstrate the natural abilities of purebred Newfoundland Dogs. While working in a capacity hauling, the dog and handler must demonstrate teamwork skills. The Newfoundland has historically functioned as a draft dog in various capacities, and the performance of these exercises is intended to demonstrate skills resulting both from natural ability and training that are applicable to realistic work situations.
The dogs must be willing to work with their handlers and the exercises must be accomplished efficiently. The goal of each handler is to maintain control while encouraging his dogs’ natural independence; together, they demonstrate teamwork. It is also important that the dog evidence willingness and enjoyment of his work.
Entry Information
Entries are limited to 15.
Entries will be accepted by mail only. See cover page for deadline dates. The entry slots will be filled according to the postmark date. If the number of entries with the same date exceeds the number of available slots, a drawing will take place to fill the vacancies and determine the alternates. All entries received after the entry limit is filled will be placed on an "alternate list" by order of those without titles, in order of postmark, followed by re-qualifiers in order of postmark. If absentees or withdrawals occur prior to the start of the test, the test secretary will substitute entries from the alternate list.
Each person will be notified by e-mail or phone that their entry was received; however notification does not indicate a placement in the draft test itself, only receipt of the entry.
Each exhibitor is responsible for knowledge of the official NCA Draft Test Rules and Regulations governing a Draft Test and the applicable standards or performance.
