Who is eligible for this scholarship?
- Eligible candidates for the scholarship will include:
- High school seniors with a good academic recordwho have applied to,(acceptance pending) or have been accepted to an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning pursuing a degree in horticulture, agriculture, food science, forestry or a related field.
- College level students with a good academic record pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in horticulture, agriculture, food science, forestry or a related field.
- County residency of the candidates will be considered in the following order:
- First preference will be given to Newberry County residents.
- Second consideration will be given to residents of Saluda, Union and Laurens counties.
General Rules
- The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, sincerity of purpose, achievement, academics and dedication to the horticulture or related fields.
- The scholarship will be paid directly to the candidate’s college and will be disbursed no later than the August meeting of the Newberry County Master Gardener Association Scholarship Committee (3rd Tuesday in August). Recipient will provide the Scholarship Committee with the official financial account number following new student orientation.
- The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1000 per academic year.
- The scholarship may be renewed upon re-application and approval. In all cases of selection, the decision of the Scholarship Committee will be final.
How to Apply
Interested candidates who meet the above-stated qualifications should complete and sign the attached scholarship application form. Please include all requested enclosures. Applications with missing information or enclosures cannot be considered. Current high school students who are applying for the scholarship should return the completed package to their high school’s college advisor/counselor for review and forwarding to theaddress to be received no later than April 15, 2016. All others should mail the application directly to this address.

- One recommendation from high school agriculture/science teacher, college department head or guidance counselor (or similar advisor, if home-schooled)
- List of other scholarships (sources and amounts), prizes, honors, and awards received
- List of extra-curricular activities (athletics, dramatics, service clubs, community projects, etc), membership in student societies, awards received and any work experience
- Essay (100 words or less) stating your career goals and reasons for choosing your field of study. (Refer to Attachments Section on bottom of application form for additional information, which should be included in the essay.)
