Rules of Procedure
  1. Sergeant-at-Arms were appointed as follows:

The Chief Sergeant-at-Arms reported to the President that forty-three voting members were present in the room, sixty-two members were registered, and thus a quorum had been established.

President Peterson read the Rules of Procedure

Motion: A motion was made and seconded to adopt the Rules of Procedure.

Action: The motion carried unanimously.

President Peterson asked for a review and adoption of the 2001 Conference Business Meeting Minutes.

President Peterson called for any additional corrections or changes. Hearing none, a motion was made.

Motion: A motion was made and seconded accepting the 2001 Business Meeting Notes as written.

Action: The motion carried unanimously.

  1. Donald Feldman M.D., DPM and Hiriam Chirel M.D., DPM of the Podiatry Association of New York addressed the assembly concerning Article 35. They presented their position on training podiatry assistants to performing radiographs of the foot and ankle. They would be willing to train the podiatry assistants in radiographic procedures. The Podiatry Association of New York would add their support to Article 35. A discussion was opened to the assembly, concerns were raised about the training curriculum and allowing other groups to amend Article 35. President Peterson thanked Donald Feldman M.D., DPM and Hiriam Chirel M.D., DPM for addressing the assembly on this issue.

The Sergeants-at-Arms reported that a quorum was established.

  1. Secretary Report

Secretary informed the membership that no correspondence have been received regarding the passing of any of our members.

  1. President Report

President Peterson and President Elect Joseph Whitton wrote a response to the ASRT concerning the ASRT Governance Restructuring. President Peterson, First Vice President William Brennan and Treasure Eileen Doyle co-authored a resolution to the ASRT. The resolution was defeated. President Peterson, Vice President William Brennan and Nominating Chair Anthony DeVito meet with the Podiatry Association of New York State concerning Article 35.

  1. Committee Reports
  1. Membership Committee Chair, Robert Geiser reporting. A total membership of 680 members.
  2. Education and Scholarship Committee - Cindy Smith Committee Chair submitted a written report. Twenty-three student essays were submitted this year for the essay contest. The winners of the student contest are:

First Place – Sandra R. Hartseil, Monroe Community College, Rochester NY

Second Place – Peter Grumm, Westchester Community College, Valhalla NY

Third Place - Robert Ratner, Northport VA Medical Center, Northport NY

Nine Educational programs will compete in the Student Bowl competition.

  1. Legislative Report submitted by President Elect Joseph Whitton. The CARE Act has fifty-four sponsors, of which four are from New York State.
  2. Newsletters submitted by Eileen Doyle. Two newsletters were mailed out this past year.
  3. Conference report submitted by President Peterson. Donations from vendor contributors amounted to $1050.00

Motion: A motion was made and seconded to accept all committee reports.

Action: The motion carried unanimously.

Nominating Chair Anne Verschuuren presented a description of each Board position.

President Elect – William Brennan. Anne Verschuuren called for nominations for this position three times; hearing none closed the nominations.

First Vice President – Barbara Neumann. Anne Verschuuren called for nominations for this position three times; hearing none closed the nominations.

Second Vice President – Diedre Costic. Anne Verschuuren called for nominations for this position three times; hearing none closed the nominations.

Ballots were distributed by the Sergeant At Arms. Each member was directed to pick three of the four candidates and return the completed ballots to the Teller. The Chief of Tellers Jim Fromm returned with the voting results.

  1. Reporting of Liaison Luncheon

Report presented by Joseph Whitton. All District / Chapter Societies reported a decline in membership. Discussions revolved around how to increases membership at the local level.

  1. Old Business

President Peterson wrote letters to Affiliate Presidents and to the ASRT Restructuring Task Force concerning ASRT Governance Restructuring. An application for membership was submitted to WIN-Healthcare Association. Robert Geiser donated $200.00 toward new memberships. Each District Liaison representative was given a membership at the local level.

Auditing Report submitted by William Smith. NYSSRS Inc is financially sound.

  1. New Business

Joan Parsons Executive Vice President from the ASRT addressed the assembly. She discussed the ASRT restructuring; the draft curriculum for education and the ASRT focus group for web site service.

President Peterson submitted an application to the ASRT for the ASRT Affiliate Assistance Pilot Program. This program allows for unified membership dues to be used for membership in both the ASRT and NYSSRS Inc. There are Chapter Delegate positions are open for election this year in Bone Densitometry, CIT, Magnetic Resonance, Management, Medical Dosimetry, Radiation Therapy and Sonography.

Podiatry Association of New York State. Donald Feldman M.D., DPM and Hiriam Chirel M.D., DPM of the Podiatry Association of New York addressed the assembly concerning Article 35. They presented their position on training podiatry assistants to performing radiographs of the foot and ankle. They would be willing to train the podiatry assistants in radiographic procedures. A discussion revolved around the pros and cons of the Podiatry Bill. A Motion was received from the assembly. The Motion was authored by Diedre Costic and seconded by Mel D. Thornhill. President Peterson read the Motion.

Motion – Support the Podiatrist Association by not opposing their exemption. We are asking for their support of Article 35. We want their assurance that a curriculum be put into place along with a credentialing mechanism support by our organization.

Action – A vote was taken, twenty-seven for, five opposed and two absentia. A majority of votes for the motion, Motion carried.

President Peterson called for any new business, hearing none; the third business session was recessed at 12:45 pm.


Fourth Business Meeting
Saturday October 19, 2002

Meeting called to order at 1:30 pm.

  1. Presidents Report

President Peterson and Eileen Doyle reported that the annual conference would make a profit this year.

Mary Ann Harvey was made an Honorary Member of the NYSSRS Inc.

Marianne Short was made a Life Member of the NYSSRS Inc.

  1. Presidents Farewell Address

President Peterson thanked the membership and the Board of Directors for their support during the past two years. She encouraged membership to give their full support to our new President Joseph Whitton.

  1. Installation of Officers

The Immediate Past President Dominick DeMichele installed each elected officer with the appropriate oath of office.

  1. Presidents Acceptance Speech

Joseph Whitton accepted his appointment to the office of President of the New York State Society of Radiologic Sciences Inc. He gave tribute to the dedication of Paulette Peterson as President of our society during the past two years.

Meeting was recessed at 2:00 pm until completion of the Student Bowl.

President Peterson called the meeting back to order at 5:50pm.

  1. Recognition of Student Awards

Cindy Smith Educational Chair presented the winners of the Student Essay contest.

First Place – Sandra R. Hartseil, Monroe Community College, Rochester NY

Second Place – Peter Grumm, Westchester Community College, Valhalla NY

Third Place - Robert Ratner, Northport VA Medical Center, Northport NY

President Peterson presented awards for the Student Bowl competition. Nine teams participated; awards were presented as follows:

First Place - Bartone School - NY Methodist Hospital

Second Place - Westchester Community College,

Third Place - Orange County Community College

President Whitton called for any new business, hearing none; Mister President adjourned the 53rd Annual Conference at 6:15 pm.
