Buchanan Arbor Day Celebration – Join Buchanan as we “plant the seeds of tomorrow today” during the Town’s annual Arbor Day Celebration held on the Town Park Friday, April 4th at 11:00am. Celebrate Buchanan’s inclusion in the Tree City USA Program with a commemorative tree planting with trees purchased through donations by local citizens and businesses. Buchanan’s Friday Night Cruise In – Kick off the spring season during Buchanan’s Antique & Classic Auto Cruise In on Friday, April 11th beginning 5:30pm through 8:30pm. Stroll through dozens of antique autos lining Main Street, shop, stroll and dine along Main Street as you take advantage of extended hours offered by many of the downtown businesses. Vote for your favorite car and be sure to enter for an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to the Buchanan Theatre. Buchanan Civil War History Weekend- Hear the roar, feel the ground shake as Civil War Cannons echo across the valley. History comes alive in downtown Buchanan as the community celebrates its’ annual Civil War History Weekend on April 25, 26, & 27. You and your family are invited to explore one of the lesser known sites of the War Between the States in downtown Buchanan. Art By the James Riverfront Festival- Welcome spring in all its glory on the Buchanan Town Park. Stroll through Artists & Antiques lining the lawn. Enjoy sipping wine from local and regional wineries. Relax along the Banks of the James as you watch Batteaux float by. Discover Buchanan’s rich heritage of river history from George Washington through the Town’s role as terminus of the James River and Kanawha Canal. Enjoy a full day of live music as you discover the musical talents of local performing artists.

Local restaurants offer Burgers & Fries, and, Good Old-Fashioned Southern Cooking. See what local vendors and Civic Organizations are offering at the Farmer's Market Booths, enjoy 50's music being played by a DJ, or, take in a movie at the historic Buchanan Theatre.Be sure to enter for an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to the Buchanan Theatre. Botetourt County Annual Fishing Carnival - The Botetourt County Recreation Department invites kids aged 15 and under to enjoy an afternoon of fishing and games on the Buchanan Town Park on Saturday, June 7th. Activities begin at 9:00 am and run through 1:00pm. Voted one of the best community events in the Best of Botetourt, the event provides family fun. Prizes and fishing will rule the day. Registration is the day of the event at the Town Park. For information call 473-8326.

Buchanan Community Yard Sale– You never know what you will find during Buchanan’s Annual Community Yard Sale Saturday!Be a seller, or, shop for bargains on Saturday, June 7th. Antiques, household items, collectibles, bake sales, garden tools, home grown perennials, clothing, furniture and just about anything may be found.

Come early for the best selections. Sales begin on Saturday from 8:00am and run until the bargains are gone. Begin or end your day’s journey on Main Street in downtown Buchanan businesses offer Side Walk Sales and vendors are set up in parking lots, along the sidewalk and in the adjacent residential neighborhoods. A day of bargains, friends and good times await your discovery. Buchanan Fourth of July Carnival– June 27 – July 5. Join us as we celebrate our 61st anniversary. Voted one of the “Best Community Events” by readers of the Roanoke Times Botetourt View. Enjoy an old fashioned Carnival featuring Games, Rides, Food and Great Music. Activities begin at 6:30pm each evening except Sunday.

Fireworks will be on July 4th at 10pm and July 5th at 11pm.

Buchanan Fourth of July Parade - Join hundreds as they line Main Street, or, take part in the annual Fourth of July Parade on July 4th at 6:00pm. To enter, call the Buchanan Town Hall at 540-254-1212.

”An Evening In Buchanan” -Friday, August 8th - The Buchanan Downtown Revitalization Program and Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce and Buchanan Area Businesses invite you to enjoy Buchanan’s tenth annual, “An Evening In Buchanan.” Set against the backdrop of Buchanan’s historic Main Street, bring your whole family to rediscover “small town America.” Enjoy an evening of carriage rides, stroll through dozens of Antique and Classic Autos on display, music by DJ Randy Riddle playing 50’s and Beach Music. Have some fun, get your portrait drawn by caricature artist then enjoy some good old fashioned food served in a nostalgic setting. Special Savings and gifts can be found in the Buchanan Coupon Books. Buchanan’s Downtown Revitalization Programand area Businesses are setting the stage for you and your family to rediscover and “Old Fashioned Christmas.” Enjoy holiday activities beginning Thanksgiving weekend continuing through Epiphany on January 6th.

Downtown’s Annual Christmas Open House - Friday and Saturday, November 2829 – Shop, Stroll & Dine. You and your family are invited to enjoy an old fashioned Christmas. Join us Friday and Saturday for extended hours from 5PM - 9PM during the Merchant’s Christmas Open House. Enjoy carols floating on air, thousands of tiny white lights, red velvet bowsand fresh evergreens decorating Buchanan’s historic Main Street buildings.Delight in the slower pace of downtown, its beautiful window displays and the hospitality of our downtown merchants. While you are here, enjoy the light refreshments being served at many of the stores including hot mulled cider and cookies.

Buchanan Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony - Saturday, November 29– Help kick off more than a month of Holiday Celebrations beginning with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony held at the Buchanan Town Hall beginning at 7PM. The evening’s activity begins as choirs from Buchanan’s historic downtown churches process by candlelight down Main Street to the Town Tree while David Austin leads the crowd in a medley of familiar carols culminating with a count down to the official lighting. Following the program, you and your family are invited to enjoy complimentary light refreshments served by Merchants in their stores along Main Street.

Late Night Fridays, Friday, November 28th, December 5th, 12th– Leave the traffic and chaos behind when you shop in downtown Buchanan during Late Night Fridays. Many of your favorite shops keep the lights on and doors open each Friday from Thanksgiving through Christmas until 9PM. Shop, stroll and dine along Main Street. Rediscover shopping close to home where our merchants specialize in serving you by name, not a number. Enjoy carols and displays of tiny white lights, red velvet bowsandfresh evergreens decorating Main Street historic storefronts.

Buchanan Festival of Trees – Discover Christmas through the eyes of a child this Christmas. Enjoy displays of trees in the Buchanan Library on Main Street from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. Ornaments hand crafted by students in Buchanan Elementary School’s preschool through fifth grade classes help to create a festive atmosphere for everyone’s enjoyment.

Buchanan Christmas Parade – Saturday, December 13th- “Rediscover an Olde Fashioned Christmas!” For more than six decades hundreds have returned to lined Buchanan’s Main Street cheering floats, marching units and bands as they announce the arrival of the Christmas Season. This year’s parade features the award winning James River High School Marching Band, dozens of marching units and floats prepared by area churches and civic organizations as well as antique autos, clowns and horses and our most honored guest, old St. Nick. Hundreds pass through the doors of the historic Wilson Warehouse each holiday season to enjoy the Candlelight Christmas Home Tour.

Candlelight Christmas Home Tour, Sunday, December 14th – The Buchanan Town Improvement Society invite you and your family to tour area homes dressed in their seasons finest. Fromporch to parlor, each home is filled with treasures from the past and present for your viewing pleasure.Following the Tour join us at thehistoric Wilson Warehouse on Lowe Street for a reception. Tour 1-5PMwith reception from 3-6PM. Advance tickets at the Buchanan Town Hall 254-1212 or at the door of each home on the day of the Tour.

Christmas Eve Luminary Display, December 24 – Buchanan has become known as the "Town that glows with love at Christmas." Celebrating the Town’s history of Buchanan's downtown streets are lined each Christmas Eve with hundreds of luminaries to herald the arrival of Christmas. Dozens of volunteers recreate this spectacular display by lining Main Street with luminaries made from milk jugs collected by area residents and youth. Enjoy this spectacular display as volunteers line the streets at 3PM and light luminaries at 6PM.

New Year’s Eve Bell Ringing, December 31st - Gather on the lawn of Trinity Episcopal Church at 11:45pm for the Countdown to midnight when all the historic church bells ring in the New Year!

Epiphany Tree Burning, January 6- Discover this "Old World" tradition as area residents and visitorsgather on the Buchanan Town Park on Lowe Street to enjoy light refreshments on Twelfth Night culminating in a bon fire made from the Town's Holiday tree and dozens of family Christmas trees.
