INFORMATION & DUTIES FOR HOME BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEES

CHAIRMAN of the Home Bureau Selection Committee:

  1. Send the COMPLETED Award Form to the State Scholarship Chairman and the Assistant Scholarship Chairman. Please do not leave any blanks. Please ask the college for the amount of the award before you send the award form.
  2. If the scholarship is NOT AWARDED for any reason please return the Award Form to the State Scholarship Chairman and Assistant Scholarship Chairman stating the reason it was not awarded.
  3. Please PRINT on this form.

The college makes the arrangements for the students to be available on campus on a mutually agreed upon date and time unless otherwise documented with the college. You may elect to talk with the students either before or after reading the applications.

It will be the task of the Home Bureau Selection Committee to study the applications given to you, and to then interview the students. Take your copies of the “Guidelines for Choosing Scholarship Recipients” and the “Organized” County and “Addendum to Counties” with you to selection.

  1. Check the applications to see that the student is full-time (see guideline #1) and that the residence requirement has been met. The student must be entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year to be eligible for the scholarship and have an academic average of 2.85 or more.
  2. Eliminate those not in a current organized Home Bureau county or on the Addendum to Counties form.
  3. Select the student you feel will be most deserving of our award. Not always is the one that has the most financial need the most deserving. Use common sense in choosing the student.

The college representative will be helpful if there is information you need. The representative should know the student’s total estimated expenses, parent’s ability to pay, and other financial aid expected.

The committee members decide upon one recipient and one alternate recipient for each scholarship being considered. Do not divide the award among two or three students. The alternate recipient only receives the award if the student chosen cannot receive the award for some reason such as the student not returning to college and etc. No not pick a student that is graduating in the fall of the same year you are meeting for selection. The award is given out in two parts, ½ in the fall and the other half in January. Therefore if they are graduating in the fall they would not be able to receive the 2nd half of the amount awarded.

All information is to remain confidential. Please destroy personal information you may have about the student. Please do not discuss these students with anyone other than those directly involved with the selection process and the State Scholarship Chairman.

Should a Scholarship Selection Committee member be related to a student applicant, she should excuse herself from the final decision making process.

The Selection Committee is not to make any agreement or policy decision with the college. Any changers must be referred to the State Board through the State Scholarship Chairman or State President if necessary.
