New fuels, new models for HUMMER

  • HUMMER H2 leads the way with E85 FlexPower capability
  • New V8 power and new H3T body style expands HUMMER H3 line-up

The iconic HUMMER range of vehicles looks forward to an exciting 2009, with new modelsand powertrainswhich expand HUMMER appeal to a widergroup of customers. What hasnot changed, however, is the unique style that sets every HUMMER apart on the highway, and the legendary capabilities that make it unique off-road as well.

One new initiative, led by the HUMMER H2 SUV and H2 SUT, is the standard FlexPower capability that will allow these models to run on E85 ethanol, gasoline, or any combination of the two fuels. E85, which consists of 85 percent ethanol mixed with gasoline, is a cleaner-burning, higher-octane fuel that can help offset rising demand for oil.

HUMMER H2

The H2 SUV and H2 SUT models are now powered by a 6.2L all-aluminum V8 engine, rated at 293 kW (398 hp) and 574 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

A new, six-speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 electronically-controlled automatic transmission complements the 6.2L engine, and helps deliver an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy. The 6L80 transmission has a "tap up/tap down" option that allows the driver to manually select upshifts and downshifts with a button on the column shifter.

The H2’s legendary off-road performance remains unchanged. The H2 has short overhangs for radical approach and departure angles, along with exceptional ground clearance for minimal impact on trails. A heavy-duty, independent front suspension and a five-link rear suspension provide superior handling, load-carrying, and towing abilities. These elements help the H2 deliver on HUMMER's mantra of capability, including powering through streams 610 mm deep, climbing 407-mm steps and rocks, and plowing through deep sand or snow.

HUMMER H3

The H3 packs authentic HUMMER style and capability into dimensions appropriate for European driving conditions, allowing H3 to navigate city traffic, yet still deliver HUMMER’s trademark off-road performance when required.

Models for 2009 now offer a new powertrain. Unchanged is the GM Vortec 3.7L, inline five-cylinder engine with dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing, offering 180 kW (244 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 328 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm.

The new, powerful and efficient 5.3L V8 engine is based on GM’s legendary ‘small-block’ engine family. It is rated at 224 kW (305 hp) and 432 Nm of torque. The 5.3L V8 accelerates the H3 from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. The maximum permissible trailer weight is increased to 2’268 kilograms.

The new HUMMER H3T

The 2009 HUMMER H3T is bringing unmistakable style and unmatched capability to the pick-up market. Based on the architecture of the popular HUMMER H3, it features a five-passenger crew cab and a separate 1.5 meter-long load bed, the ideal dimensions for serious load carrying or for lifestyle use. A broad range of factory accessories will be available for the H3T at the official European HUMMERdealerships.

The H3T embodies the classic HUMMER design elements – wide stance, low roofline, and wheels at the corners – but is smaller than a full-size American pick-up truck, at1’904mm wide and 5’404mm long.

H3T maintains its signature HUMMER off-road capability. It is the only pick-up to come with full-time four-wheel drive, 32-inch tires and functional skid plates as standard equipment. It also is the only pick-up truck to offer front and rear locking differentials, for ultimate off-road performance.
