STICK/EQUIPMENT CHECKS
We conduct a minimum of 2 equipment checks per game (all levels), & up to 4, based on the NFHS recommendation.
Remember: Use Common Sense… The crosse/equipment is illegal if it was altered to gain an advantage.
If items are prohibited, have the player correct the stick without penalty & later may return to play.
Again, Don’t look for Trouble! / -Determine in Pre-game when/how many equip. checks will be conducted & how you’ll do them.
-Make yourselves available after the coaches’ certification & coin-toss to check sticks.
-Conduct a Conference w/All FO players - Look at their crosses!
-Bench side official meets players; Far side official retrieves a ball; Meet at center X.
-Check the crosse/equipment properly & call the violation if you find it. The intent of the rule is to get the illegal sticks out of the game & not allow a player to gain an unfair advantage.
-Know the correct penalty for a violation: 1 or 3 minutes non-releasable and/or if the item can come back into the game.
-A player has worn a hole in the glove... Have him tape it up & show you before returning.
-Tape Rings / No End Caps are not Penalties unless you told him earlier & he disregarded.
-Mouthpieces must be colored & cover upper or lower teeth, but need not be attached.
-Coach calls for a stick check - Procedure
➢Discuss procedure when an “Illegal” or “Prohibited” item is discovered
