Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of the Office for Planning Advocacy or other supervisor, assists municipalities and counties with achieving well-managed growth; performs other related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Improve planning under the direction of the State Development and Redevelopment (State Plan) throughout New Jersey by establishing partnerships with municipal and county officials and planning staff on a regional basis.
  • Assist counties and municipalities to achieve the goals of the State Planincluding Plan Endorsement. Continue to work with counties and municipalities to achieve the objectives established within endorsed plans.
  • Assist municipalities with drafting economic development plans as part of a municipal master plan.
  • Assist the Office for Planning Advocacy to effect State Plan map changes.
  • Assist local government in redeveloping best practices to increase ratables and economic growth.
  • Educate local officials on available planning tools to support economic development.
  • Participate in inter-agency committees, taskforces, and other forums for coordinating State agency plans, programs, investments, and rules with the State Development and Redevelopment Plan/State Strategic Plan.
  • Conduct research, prepare written reports, and contribute to the implementation of the State Development and Redevelopment Plan/State Strategic Plan.
  • Provide support and technical assistance to the State Planning Commission.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and others involved with land use and the planning activities of the unit.
  • Assist with work involved in developing local, regional and statewide planning projects which involve the consideration of highway systems, railroads, airport facilities, industrial and residential areas, water supplies, sewage systems and population concentrations.
  • Represent the Office for Planning Advocacy at meetings and conferences related to the mission of the office.
  • Develop and maintain real estate data bases.
  • Handle other duties as assigned in support of Business Action Center.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of planning in New Jersey in accordance with the Municipal Land Use Law and the State Development and Redevelopment Plan.
  • In addition, the candidate should have a general understanding of other laws affecting land use and development in New Jersey.
  • Should enjoy working with people, including the general public and local and county representatives.
  • The candidate must be a team-player, self-motivated and be able to work independently on regional assignments.

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
  • NJ Professional Planners License preferred.

RESIDENCY:

New JerseyResidency required. If you do not reside in New Jersey, you have one year after the date you begin employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey.
