New Client Questions

The following are a set of questions that help us get to know you & your business better to help us do the best possible job we can do. These questions will help us uncover how your business works, your customers & community, your SEO/marketing background & expectations, and the resources we have to work with, all extremely critical to our performance.

Remember to be honest and as detailed as possible. If you have any questions on why we’re asking you these things, feel free to just ask – there’s a good reason for each!

Section #1: Getting to know you

  1. What purpose does your brand serve?
  1. How do you differentiate your brand from the competition (what is your unique value proposition)?

Section #2: Understanding the business

  1. What are your main business goals?
  1. What conversion actions can visitors take on your website?
  1. Who is your target audience? (Define personas if possible.)
  1. What is the average life time value of a customer?
  1. What does the sales cycle look like?
  1. What are the current conversion rates?
  1. Is your business or any of your products seasonal?
  1. How much revenue are you currently generating from organic search on a monthly basis?
  1. Are you currently doing any Pay Per Click advertising?

Section #3: Understanding the community

  1. Does your brand have a voice and personality?
  1. What is your community like?
  1. Do you have a blog, forum, or newsletter?
  1. Is there anything else we should know about your community or the community of this vertical as a whole?

Section #4: Understanding your SEO/Marketing background & expectations

  1. What are the basic keywords you want to rank for?
  1. What are a few of your main competitors you want to beat?
  1. Describe your previous experience with SEOs.
  1. Was it good/bad? Why?
  1. What’s making you change SEO vendors now?
  1. What do you wish you old SEO did for you?
  1. Define exactly what your expectations are for us from an SEO perspective.
  1. Have you or a past SEO vendor done anything, to your knowledge, that is, or could be, considered against Google’s Webmaster guidelines? Define exactly what and be as detailed as possible.
  1. What are some of the previous marketing & PR initiatives you’ve done? Are there any that you or a separate department is currently working on?
  1. Do you do any offline marketing? If so, please define exactly what you are doing.

Section #5: Defining the resources we have to work with

  1. Can we have access to a company email address?
  1. Can we have access to your Google Analytics (or other analytics software)?
  1. Do you have any in-house or contracted web developers? Designers?
  1. Are you in the process of making any changes to the website?
  1. Can we have access to executives (if you have any) for questions & interviews?
  1. What organizations or associations are you a part of?
  1. What businesses/consultants have you contracted with in the past?
  1. Define every business you currently have a working relationship with. (i.e. suppliers, manufacturers, partners, etc.)
  1. Is your company involved with in anyway any charities or non-profits?
  1. Are you working with a PR agency?
