New Classes Beginning at the YMCA

Come Swim with Us

If you want to learn how to swim or simply need more exercise, then come sign up today at the YMCA. The YMCA will be offering an ongoing series of swimming lessons for people of all ages. The lessons are for children, young people, and adults. All swimming classes meet twice a week until November 30th.

Classes begin on August 25th but don’t wait until the last minute to sign up. Registration for swimming lessons begins on August 15th and runs until the 22nd. The price for children is only twenty dollars if they are already a member at the YMCA and thirty dollars for nonmembers. Adult members pay thirty dollars and nonmembers pay thirty five dollars. Hurry up and register today before the classes are filled. The YMCA can only hold 15 people per class.

Children’s classes are divided into three age groups. Tiny Tots classes are for children ages one to three. Kindergarten classes are for children ages four to six. Elementary classes are for children six to nine years old. Youth classes are for children ten to thirteen years old, and teen classes are for people between fourteen and seventeen years old. Adult classes are for anyone eighteen years and older.

To register for swimming lessons, see Mr. Bob Driver at the YMCA office. For the schedule information on dates and times of each class, Mrs. Bertha Bucher can be contacted at 774-4567.

There are no cash refunds offered for registration fees. If you need to cancel after you have already registered, make sure to contact Mrs. Bucher to obtain a credit memo, which can be applied to registration for other YMCA classes. Hope to see many new swimmers this year at the YMCA swimming lessons.

Hospital Announces New Head of Department

Mountain East Medical Center Welcomes Johnny Toler

Bob Wilkinson is resigning his position as the head of the medical department at Mountain East Medical Center. Johnny Toler, who has been working in the purchasing department as an assistant in the hospital, will be the new head of the medical department.

Wilkinson graduated from the state university’s school of hospital administration in 1972. He began working at the Mountain East Medical Center in 1975, after he worked as a purchasing chief at a community hospital. Wilkinson will begin his new job as a purchasing agent at City Memorial Hospital.

The hospital administrator, Harry Illscott, stated, “Bob’s abilities will be greatly missed at this hospital, but I know that Johnny Toler is a person we can all depend on to do whatever is necessary to keep his department going. I have great faith in him and this hospital.”

Toler began his career as an assistant druggist for Mountain East Medical Center thirteen years ago. Toler moved to the purchasing department as an assistant in 1978 after the pharmacy department of the hospital closed. When asked about his new position, Toler said, “This hospital means a great deal to me and my family, and I will give my best efforts to making our purchasing department the best. I learned from a fine man-Bob Wilkinson-and I hope I can continue to build on the foundation he established.”

Toler will begin his position as the new head of the medical department immediately.
