Introductory Information for New Chapter Officers

Introduction

Welcome to your new position as anofficer of an ABPMP chapter. The directors of ABPMP would like to offer you some basic information to make your transition and service on the chapter board easier. We hope that this help to maintain continuity of information across chapter officer terms of office.

ABPMP Board of DirectorsThe chapter president or an appointed representative is an ex officio member of the Association Board of Directors. One representative per chapter may attend Board of Directors meetings and vote on most matters before the board. Prior service as a chapter officer is one qualification for membership on the association board of directors. The Board of Directors meets three or four times a year. One or two of these meetings are face to face and the rest are via teleconference.

ABPMP Bylaws

ABPMP has adopted a set of bylaws to govern the structure of the organization and the operations of the ABPMP National Board of Directors. You may request a copy of the association bylaws from the Vice President of Operations () or from your chapter president.

Chapter Bylaws

Even though it is not necessary for aU.S. chapter to incorporate as an independent organization, each chapter is required to have bylaws, separate from the ABPMP Association Bylaws, indicating the rules concerning the roles and responsibilities of officers, the election of officers, and amendment of the bylaws. Each officer of anABPMP chapter is required to have a copy of their chapter’s bylaws, either electronically or on paper. If the chapter maintains a web site, it is recommended that the chapter post their bylaws on their web site. It is recommended that each chapter list the responsibilities of each officer, and that this list is distributed to each new chapter officer at the start of their term of office.

ABPMP Code of Ethics

All chapter officers of ABPMP chapters are required to adhere to the ABPMP Code of Ethics, and to acknowledge in a statement that they have read and will abide by the code of ethics. As a new ABPMP chapter officer, please secure a copy of the Code of Ethics from the ABPMP web site at and send a statement to the chapter president acknowledging that you have read and will abide by the ABPMP Code of Ethics as one of your very first responsibilities.

Chapter Documentation

ABPMP strongly suggests that each chapter appoint an officer to act as the chapter’s archivist, safely storing copies of all important documents. These documents would include, but are not limited to:

  • Chapter Bylaws and Policies
  • Current full contact information for all chapter officers past and present
  • A statement from each chapter officer indicating that they have read and agree to abide by the ABPMP Code of Ethics
