SHURE AT IBC 2017

New Axient Digital Wireless Microphone System Makes Its IBC Debut

Amsterdam,September 15th, 2017—Respected microphone manufacturer Shure returns to the IBC show in Amsterdam from September 15th until -19th to showcase its new Axient Digital wireless microphone system. The Shure booth (#35, Hall 8) features regular Axient Digital demonstrations and hands-on stations where visitors to the show can see and test the system's various components.

Launched earlier this year, Shure's new flagship wireless microphone system incorporates a newly designed minimal-latency digital RF engine that builds on the benefits of Shure's previous industry-standard UHF-R, ULX-D®, and Axient wireless systems. Axient Digital offers a wide tuning bandwidth of up to 184MHz, high channel density and advanced RF interference detection and avoidance features that will be familiar to users of the original Axient system. The scalable, networkable system includes a universal receiver, available in dual- and quad-channel versions (AD4D/AD4Q) that works with two tiers of transmitters: AD series and the top-of-the-range ADX series. The latter range includes the extremely discreet ADX1M, the world’s first micro-bodypack with an internal antenna, which addresses many of the key performance compromises of traditional bodypack designs. All of the AD and ADX series transmitters are on display at IBC, together with the system's dual and quad-channel receivers, the associated batteries and charging units.

The workstations on the Shure stand also demonstrate the close integration between Axient Digital and Shure's Wireless Workbench system management software. All aspects of the system, including wireless signal strength, frequency management, and transmitter battery life can be monitored remotely via Wireless Workbench, while transmitter parameters such as gain and operating frequency can be adjusted remotely in real time thanks to Shure's ShowLink technology.

"IBC is the ideal showcase for Axient Digital's suitability for broadcasters," explains Frank Lemmert of Shure Distribution. "The convenience and ease-of-use of wireless microphones means that they're being used ever more widely for broadcast applications, but with Digital Dividends and RF spectrum auctions in progress throughout Europe, the availability of RF spectrum for wireless applications is more restricted than ever. This is causing major problems for broadcasters in RF-heavy urban areas, or at outdoor events where multiple broadcasters' OB vehicles are active.

"Axient Digital was designed with these concerns in mind. The system's ability to run many channels reliably, even over a restricted range of frequencies, its wide tuning bandwidth and its automatic interference detection and avoidance features mean that no matter how crowded an RF environment you're working in, you'll be able to find and use clean, compatible frequencies for your wireless mics."
