1.) Who is the author of this piece of work?

The author of this particular piece of work is Samantha Powers. Powers is the Director of Human Rights Initiative at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Powers is most known for the book she wrote called A Problem from Hell.

2.) What is the full title of this piece?

The full title of this piece of work is Never Again: The World's Most Unfulfilled Promise. The meaning of the title refers to the promises that past presidents made to never again have genocide. The World's Most Unfulfilled Promise is that the presidents that said never again did nothing and let genocide continue.

3.) What was the Historical context within the work?

Amongst the world recovering from one of its darkest days and the holocaust a pledge to stop genocide was made. Sense that pledge genocide has been far from stopped. Powers is inspired to get her point across that nothing is happening to end genocide simply because the United States said never again will there be genocide and that is not the case. Powers states that no one stopped Cambodia or Rwanda and the presidents that were in power say they are just following the American people who elected them.

4.) Who do you think the intended audience is?

I think there is two different intended audiences. the main audience is the United States government and its people. Powers uses the U.S. to show that nothing is happening to stop genocide and the crimes that are taking place. The second intended audience is the world because Powers believes that in order to stop genocide the world need to stop it.

5.) What do you think the main argument of this passage is?

I think the main argument is genocide. That genocide is wrong and nothing is happening to end genocide. Powers isn't hesitant to put the blame on past presidents and the people of the United States for not standing up and trying to end genocide. I strongly believe that genocide is wrong and needs to be stopped. I understand were powers is coming from on this issue. If more people stand up and pressure are president to do more to end genocide then we can start to rid the world of genocide. As long as people sit and do nothing and don’t speak out on the issue nothing can or will be done to end genocide. We as citizens of the United States have a right to voice are opinions and concerns were other countries do not it is up to us to make are voice heard for those people. In order to stop genocide completely we all must come together in the world and realize that genocide is wrong and it must not continue. Let the Holocaust be a reminder of the affects that genocide can have on the world.
