The purpose of this document is to provide insight on the assessments that are embedded in the core content areas in order to support progress monitoring of students’ learning skills.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
The Imagine It! program provides teachers with Lesson Assessments and Benchmark Assessments. The Lesson Assessments cover the most important skills featured in each lesson of a given unit. These assessments help teachers determine how well students are grasping the skills and concepts as they are taught and will help inform instruction. Blackline masters of and scoring directions for the Lesson Assessments can be found in the Lesson Assessment Handbook. The Benchmark Assessments are a form of general outcome measurement that offer an overall framework for assessment and serve as a predictor of how well students will perform at the end of the school year. Each Benchmark Assessment is of equivalent difficulty and students are expected to show growth as they move on to each subsequent benchmark. Blackline masters of and scoring directions for the Benchmark Assessments can be found in the Benchmark Assessment Handbook.

Math
The McGraw-Hill My Math textbook provides chapter assessments called “eAssessments” that teachers can use to monitor students’ understanding of the standards in the core curriculum. The Unit Assessment Guide for Mathematics document provides the teachers with the specific chapters and lessons that are aligned to each unit in the core curriculum. Teachers are expected to use the Georgia Math textbook along with the Unit Assessment Guide for Mathematics to construct unit assessments that measure student learning for each unit of study. Teachers will collaborate with grade level peers to identify the eAssessment questions specified on the Unit Assessment Guide, assemble the unit assessment, and load the completed unit assessment to Edutrax for test administration. The dates below provide a timeframe for administering each unit assessment.

Social Studies
The K-2 Social Studies content is assessed via the culminating tasks embedded in each unit’s framework. Testing windows for unit assessments include days for review, re-teaching and reassessing. Unit assessments are available only as a resource for grades K-4. Fifth grade unit assessments should be given at the end of each unit to measure standard mastery. Document Based Questions (DBQs) are a required assessment for all grade levels and should be completed every nine weeks. Please refer to the Year at a Glance for each grade level’s DBQ due dates.(DBQ Resources: Standards Based DBQ, DBQ Assessment Rubric, and Stanford Steps Process for Analyzing Primary Sources)
