Nevada Sesquicentennial Celebration PR Report

April 23, 2014

Following is an update regarding The Glenn Group’s public relations activities for March.

Media Relations/Communications:

  • Media Coverage – We’ve identified more than 450 statewide media stories and many social media mentions. March was a busy month with the Battle Born Birthday Cake Celebration; we were able to establish a mutual broadcast agreement between our northern and southern Nevada television partners to share video of the Birthday Cake Celebration that resulted in increased coverage. Our print media partners continue with daily and weekly stories (some highlights are attached). Tales of Nevada featured Scott Carey, Commissioner Cafferata, the Finding Fremont Exhibit at the Nevada State Museum, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and others.
  • Media Partners – Several meetings have taken place with new regular story ideas coming from our broadcast media partners. We’ll keep everyone apprised as these unfold.
  • Press Releases – Press releases included: the commencement of sales for the second design of the Sesquicentennial medallions, minting for the second Sesquicentennial medallions, Marchand April events, Nevada Day Parades, Battle Born Birthday Cake Celebration, Third Medallion Contest Announcement and the Helen Stewart Birthday Tea Event.
  • Nevadan Stories Blog – We continue to receivenew “Nevadan stories” for the blog. D4 is posting blog entries regularly to provide and refresh the content.

Community Relations:

  • Social media –We are working with two university journalism/media students to create a viral campaign for the Sesquicentennial. Stay tuned!
  • Sesquicentennial Stamp – We are building a community outreach component around the unveiling of the U.S. Postal Service’s commemorative state stamp. This may include a pen pal program and a workshop with arts students.

Upcoming:

  • Press Events/Releases – State Historic Preservation Office Playing Cards launch on May 1, LVCVA traveling exhibit on May 6, the unveiling of the U.S. Postal Service Sesquicentennial Stamp on May 29, Stephen’s Press Sesquicentennial book launch on June 12, continued press for the Balloon Festival, and plans for announcing the design of the third Sesquicentennial Medallion.
