  13. FAQ Feedback – who to contact?

1.Question: What SSL gateway should I use?
Answer:Click on the gateway closest to your region first, and then login for optimum performance. You may experiment by selecting different gateways to determine the best performance for you.

2.Question: What is the difference between Network Connect and Windows Mode?
Answer: Network Connect is the preferred connection method for everyone (Windows, Mac, and Linux). Windows mode is an older method of connecting; this maybe deprecated sometime in the future. Java mode is for older Macs (MacOS 9) and may also be deprecated in the future.

3. Question:Can I use Macintosh or Linux?
Answer: Yes, select Network Connect. Requires Sun JVM 1.42_07+

Intel Macs are only supported on the ScottsValley gateway today.

Red Hat Linux 9 and Suse Linux 9.3 are supported but others are known to work.

4. Question:What is my user name and password?
Answer: Your user name is your GID and the password is your assigned PIN and the six digit token or soft token code.

5. Question: I forgot my password. Whom should I contact?
Answer: Your local help desk can reset your password (see Helpdesk info below)

6. Question: What are the settings for home networks?
Answer: Two networks are reserved for home use: 192.168.0.0 /24 and 192.168.1.0 /24. Most DSL and wireless routers use these networks by default.

7. Question:Can I access my Novell drives with the SSL gateway?
Answer: Yes. Your Novell client should be setup to use TCP/IP. Contact the Helpdesk if you are having trouble.

8. Question: Network Connect is not working for me.
Answer: Do you have a firewall installed that could be blocking the Network Connect client from installing? If so, you will need to configure the firewall to allow the client to install. The Helpdesk has more details but in short allow your firewall permissions to access “dsNcService.exe” and “dsNetworkConnect.exe”.

9. Question:Why do I get the external my.seagate.com?
Answer: If my.Seagate.com is set as your home page in your browser and you access the internet the external page will launch and get cached. After you sign into the Seagate network and go to my.Seagate.com you will get the cached external site. To work around this open another browser or window in IE.

10. Question: How do I logout when I cannot find the SSL home page?
Answer: Right-click the icon in the tray and select "Sign Out".

Note: “Exit” does not completely log you out, be sure to select “Sign Out”.

11. Question: Can I use a different browser?
Answer: You can login with IE7 and Firefox (or Safari on the Mac) but many Seagate applications require IE6. For Firefox2 you may need to manually launch the Network Connect client (Clients Apps > Start).

12. Question: Support for Vista?
Answer: Limited access will be available tentatively mid-April.

12. Question: The FAQ didn’t answer my question.

Answer: Email: Lucy Froehlich with suggestions for improving the FAQ.
