Role Title / Athletics Coach Assistant (Up to 4 posts)
Description / South Yorkshire Athletics Network is looking to create coach roles on the back of the success of both the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games & the 2014 Commonwealth Games and subsequent increased demand from athletes wishing to join clubs.
We require Coaches to augment the coaching teams at two clubs: Doncaster AC & Rotherham Harriers Athletic Clubs, to increase the club capacity, and allow more young people to take up club athletics.
The aim of this role is to work as a member of the young athlete coaching team at the club. You will work closely with the lead coaches and administrator. In addition to coaching & leading a group of young athletes. Additional tasks will include monitoring attendance at training sessions and supporting athletes preparing for and attending competitions.
Potential Hours Required, Pattern and Rate of Pay /
  • Voluntary position
  • 2 sessions, 3 hours per week
  • Locations – Rotherham: Herringthorpe Stadium / and indoor venue during winter - Location TBC; Doncaster: Keepmoat Stadium
  • Dates of work
  • Coach delivery commences January 2016. Coach Assistant course dates 30th Jan & 6th Feb 2016

Person Specification / Skills:
  • Good communication
  • Well organised with good time management
  • Develop, plan and assist in delivering sessions
Knowledge:
  • No specific knowledge required training provided
Experience of:
  • Athletics (not essential)
  • Coaching (desirable)
  • Knowledge of sport development (desirable)
The successful coach assistants will need to apply for & undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, before their coach license will be issued.

Desirable Prerequisites/Qualifications /
  • A UK Athletics qualification is not required
  • Safeguarding and Protecting Children and first aid desirable

  • UK Athletics Coach Assistant course; 2 days – Day one 30th Jan 2016, day two 6th Feb (Location EIS-Sheffield)
If we can, we will try to fund the following but we might only be able to signpost you to;
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Sports Coach UK ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children Award’
