NET NOTES - BLOCK TERMINAL UPDATES AND INFO.

WE WILL BE TRAINING ON BLOCK TERMINAL THIS MORNING, AND I WANTED TO

SHARE SOME INFORMATION THAT I FOUND USEFUL WHEN TRYING TO UNDERSTAND

SOME OF THE FEATURES OF THIS PROGRAM.

CODING IS COMPLETE ON ALL OF THE USMTF TABS WHICH MAKES THIS PROGRAM

VERY USEFUL.

"ORDER WIRE MODE" WHEN CHECKED, THE ENTER KEY IMMEDIATELY SENDS ANY

DATA IN THE TRANSMIT DATA WINDOW. IF MONITOR TX IN THE RECEIVED DATA

WINDOW IS CHECKED, THE ORDER WIRE DATA IS TRANSFERRED TO THE RECEIVED

DATA WINDOW WHEN IT IS SENT. THIS CHECKBOX STATUS IS NOT SAVED WHEN

THE PROGRAM CLOSES.

TO SEND A BLOCK MESSAGE YOU MUST PRESS "SEND BLOCKS" IN THE BLOCK

FUNCTIONS GROUP.

BLOCK MODE CAN NOW BE DISABLED BY UNCHECKING 'ENABLE BLOCK MODE" ON

THE CONFIG TAB. THIS HIDES ALL OF THE BLOCK FUNCTIONS ON THE RX/TX

TAB. IN THIS MODE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SEND OR RECEIVE BLOCK

MESSAGES.

INFORMATION TYPED INTO ANY REMARKS OR GENTEXT FIELD WILL BE FORMATTED

SO THAT NO LINE EXCEEDS 69 CHARACTERS

(AS SPECIFIED IN ACP-126 AND ACP127) WHEN THE "SEND TO ACP" OR

"PREVIEW" BUTTONS ARE PRESSED.

NOTE THAT THE AFTER ACTION TAB CONTAINS A VERICAL SCROLL BAR. USE IT

TO SCROLL UP/DOWN AND VIEW ALL OF THE ENTRY FIELDS.

THE ICS FORMS TAB HAS BEEN REMOVED. IT WILL RETURN WHEN ICS FORMS ARE

IMPLEMENTED.

"PAGINATION" IT ALLOWS PAGINATION AS DEFINED IN ACP-127. THIS

ACCOUNTS FOR THE NUMBER OF LINES INCLUDED IN A MESSAGE BEGINNING AT

FORMAT LINE 5 AND SPLITS THE MESSAGE AT EACH 20TH LINE FOR UP TO 5

PAGES. IF THE MESSAGE IS LONGER THAN 5 PAGES, THE USER MUST MANUALLY

SPLIT THE MESSAGE INTO SECTIONS.

"BOLD" CHECKBOX ON THE RX/TX TAB. WHEN CHECKED, TEXT IN THE RX AND TX

WINDOW IS BOLD.

"SUPPL 1 CHECKBOX" ON THE ACP-127 TAB. WHEN CHECKED THE "PREVIEW" AND

"SEND TO RX/TX TAB" BUTTONS CREATE A MESSAGE FORMATTED IN ACP-127

SUPPLEMENT 1.

"RESET BOX" ON THE RX/TX TAB. WHEN CHECKED, RESETS TRANSMIT TIMES TO

1 FROM THE ACP-126, ACP-127 TAB.

"NO XMIT" CHECKBOX ON THE TRANSMIT DATA GROUP. WHEN IT IS CHECKED,

PRESSING SEND BLOCKS CONVERTS THE CONTENTS OF THE TRANSMIT BOX TO

CONTIGOUOS BLOCKS AND PLACES THEM IN THE RECEIVED DATA WINDOW. AT THE

SAME TIME IT DISPLAYS A "SAVE" BUTTON THAT WILL SAVE THE WINDOW.

"REMIND" CHECKBOX ABOVE THE "SEND TEXT" BUTTON. WHEN CHECKED,

BLOCKTERM WILL DISPLAY A VERIFICATION DIALOG BEFORE SENDING A

MESSAGE. CHECK THIS BOX IF YOU HAVE EVER PRESSED "SEND TEXT" INSTEAD

OF "SEND BLOCKS", OR VICE-VERSA.

"TRANSMIT TIMES" ON THE TRANSMIT BLOCKS DIALOG. WITH THIS, THE

OPERATOR CAN SPECIFY THAT THE MESSAGE BE TRANSMITTED 1 TO 10 TIMES AS

A METHOD TO PROVIDE FILLS IN A BROADCAST ENVIRONMENT.

NOTE: SENDING ANY MESSAGE AS A BLOCK MESSAGE HELPS TO ENSURE THAT IT

HAS BEEN RECEIVED ERROR-FREE. BLOCKTERM USES A CHECKSUM ON BLOCK

MESSAGES TO VERIFY THAT THE RECEIVED BLOCK IS THE SAME AS WHEN IT WAS

SENT. EVEN A VERY SMALL MESSAGE BENEFITS FROM THIS CAPABILITY.

"BBF" RECALLS ANY TRANSMITTED FILE AND PLACES IT IN THE TRANSMIT

WINDOW. IT THEN SETS THE BLOCK SIZE TO MATCH THAT SELECTED WHEN THE

MESSAGE WAS TRANSMITTED AND ENABLES THE SEND BLOCKS BUTTON. THIS

ALLOWS THE TRANSMITTING STATION TO RETRANSMIT A MESSAGE FROM HISTORY

WITHOUT RELOADING THE MESSAGE.

"COPY RECEIVED FILES TO:" COPIES RECEIVED BLOCK FILES TO A SPECIFIED

DIRECTORY WHEN THE FILE IS COMPLETE. EVEN IF YOU DO NOT PUT ANYTHING

IN THIS BLOCK, THE FILES ARE SAVED UNDER THE DEFAULT PROGRAM

DIRECTORY UNDER RXFILES AND TXFILES. I PERSONALLY JUST USE THE

DEFAULT WHICH COMES UP IF YOU CLICK THE "FILE" "OPEN" WINDOW.

IMPORTANT NOTE - ALL USERS ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK THE DTR/RTS BLOCK IN

THE M110A DMT MODEM.

SIGNALINK USERS WILL NOT USE BLOCKTEST TERMINAL RADIO CAT PORT.

PLEASE LEAVE THE PORT BOX BLANK. TO DO THIS, HIGHLIGHT THE BOX THEN

PRESS DELETE.

A TYPICAL CONFIGURATION FOR USE WITH SIGNALINK IS:

MODEM: DATA PORT: COM6, CAT COM PORT: COM7

TERMINAL: DMT DATA PORT : COM16, DMT CAT PORT: COM17, RADIO CAT PORT:

BLANK

"LOCK RECEIVE BLOCK DISPLAY" CHECK BOX IN THE BLOCK DISPLAY GROUP.

THIS IS SO THE TRANSMITTING STATION CAN DISABLE RECEIVED BLOCK

PROCESSING ON HIS SYSTEM UNTIL HE HAS COMPLETED THE FILL PROCESS.

WITHOUT THIS CHECK BOX, IF ANOTHER STATION SENDS A FILL BLOCK AND THE

TRANSMITTING STATION RECEIVED IT, HIS TRANSMITTED BLOCK DISPLAY WOULD

BE OVERWRITTEN BY THE RECEIVED BLOCK.

TO FILL A TRANSMITTED BLOCK, JUST RIGHT CLICK ON A GREEN BLOCK IN THE

TRANSMIT / BBF BLOCKS GROUP. THE ASSOCIATED FILE WILL BE LOADED INTO

THE TRANSMIT WINDOW, WHERE YOU SIMPLY PRESS "SEND TEXT" TO SEND THE

FILL.

I HOPE YOU FIND THE ABOVE INFO HELPFUL IN THE USE OF BLOCKTERM.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME ANY TIME.
