2006
Annual Report Austria
From january to june Austria held the EU-Presidency.During that time some union wide cultural /museums events took place in Austria.
Conference "An Expedition to EuropeanDigital Cultural Heritage - Collecting, Connecting - and Conserving?"21. - 22. Juni in Salzburg for representants of libraries, museums and archives. Main issuewas the question how to save the long term access to digital cultural and scientific resources. The discussions
The vision of a joint European digital heritage space was under consideration, whose aim shall be, to make the cultural heritage accessible for everyone and preserved for future generations. This vision is part of the implementation of the dynamic action plan 2005 - coordination of digitization procedures - and the 2010 initiative to realise a European digital library.
On may 18th 2006 the „political consensus” concerning Culture 2007 was adopted during the councils conference.
After the “3rd Mobility Conference” inHelsinki in august 06 the Ministry / government department for education, science and culture got the task to form and lead a working group in order to develop a European, flexible and valid facility report form as well as the standardized loan agreement form. The last mentioned task will be fulfilled by NEMO, as we all know, so it was released by the ministry, For the first one the coordination of the working group has been assumed by DDr. Höhle, Mag. Aigner /ICOM and Dr. Assmann/ÖMB.
The practical conceptual work will be done by a team in which also Stefan Traxler from the ÖMB will be involved.
The state indemnity scheme is active now: valid for National and StateMuseums. So far a discussion about further extension of the validity is not to be foreseen.
Austrian museums statistics are not yet to be started. As there is still no nationwide concept or planning by the national authorities, the museums representatives from the regions / countries aim to work together. Three countries already have statistics coinciding with the German guidelines - although partly fragmentary because of the matter of fact, that many institutions, predominantly the small ones, are not will to give the inside information outwards as there are budget details, number of visitors, employment/Volunteer relationship, etc.Only one of the federal countries does the statistic inquiry regularly according to the federal directives for a public support.- The nextregional statisticsproject with a newly developed questionnaire – as well following the guidelines of the German publication – will be started in Upper Austria in spring 07.
