As Readers/Writers we will take influence from the story ‘Ruby’s Wish’ and ‘The Tunnel’. /
  • Autumn A: Ruby’s wish– portrait of a young girl who's full of ambition and the family who rewards her hard work and courage.
  • Autumn B: ‘The Tunnel’ a tale of an ordinary family in an ordinary neighbourhood
  • We will develop our reading and writing our reading/understanding skills and in writing fiction and nonfiction texts based around these texts
  • Writing Focus: Narratives including descriptive writing: setting and characters, Recounts (Ruby’s Wish)
Letters, Narrative including dialogue and instructions( The Tunnel)
  • Grammar Focus: revisit previously learned grammar including use of exclamation marks, compound sentences and coordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS) prepositions and prepositional phrases, commas for lists. Year 4 Grammar: using subordinate conjunctions to write sentences which contain more than 1 clause (AWHITEBUS) writing dialogue with correct punctuation, using paragraphs and apostrophe for possession.

As Geographers we willstudy the human and physical geographical features of Europe with a focus on Greece and Spain. /
  • Locate countries, using maps to focus on Europe.
  • Use maps atlases globes & digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied

  • Use 8 points of a compass, 4-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build their knowledge of the UK

As Historians we will study Ancient Greece and the influences of the Ancient Greeks on the western world. /

  • Living things & their habitats through the year
