Here is the latest neighbourhood update from your Wendover and Aston Clinton Neighbourhood Team for the current quarter.

Neighbourhood Update

Sergeant Steve Clewlow has taken over supervisory duties from Sgt Emily Dover on the Wendover team. The team are based at Aylesbury Police Station and allows the small team greater accessibility to their supervisor.

In the last three months we have seen a rise in anti-social behaviour (ASB) issues, predominantly in the Wendover and Weston Turville areas. The offences have been dealt with proportionately using a warning system similar to the red and yellow cards used in football, effectively giving those who have been in trouble once, a chance to ensure they are not caught doing the same thing again. This has not proved very successful with some youths in the area, with two red cards being issued by mid-August.

There are still some issues surrounding the Ponyfield site in Weston Turville with a high number of ASB and criminal damage reports being received. One resident, who is below the age of criminal responsibility (under 10 years old) has been issued his final warning and further similar conduct will result in a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) being issued. We are taking positive steps with Hayley Money from AVDC and Karen Ross from the School Liaison Team engaging in meetings to try and get a positive resolution alongside PC Andy Smith, our local ASB officer.

We urge you to report these incidents as soon as you can, if it is an emergency, do not hesitate to use 999, but if it is a report of an incident that took place a number of hours ago, please call us on 101.

Officers have also attended the Neighbourhood Engagement Point when possible to engage with residents who wish to attend.

Ongoing from the last update, further yellow ASB warning cards have been issued. A final warning card was issued to an underage male and Social Services informed following his involvement in a theft where the neighbourhood team recovered the stolen articles within 15 minutes of the offence taking place.

Crime prevention advice

The last month has seen a rise on burglaries again, so this month we have provided some advice regarding preventing such crimes.

·  When leaving your property ensure all windows and doors are locked. During warmer days it is easy to forget that a window is still open, so just take that extra minute or so to walk around and make sure everything is closed and secure.

·  If you have a UPVC front door make sure it is deadlocked. Just lifting the handle doesn’t engage the locks you need to lift the handle and lock the door.

·  Arm your burglar alarm. Your neighbours may not check when it’s going off but we will.*

·  Lock your back gate and remove any tools from the garden which could be used to force entry.

·  If you are going away ask one of your neighbours to move your post. If a burglar sees lots of post piling up by the front door they may come and have a look through your window.

·  Put any keys and electrical items such as ipads and laptops away and out of view.

·  Ensure that any security lights are in working order.

·  Fit timer switches to lamps so that they can be programmed to come on during the hours of darkness. If you haven’t got any contact the team and we can get some to you.

·  Marking property with postcodes on all valuable items with a permanent marker, UV pen or with a property marking solution from companies such as Smart water, Selecta DNA or Crimestoppers.
