After obtaining a degree in History I spent 2 years as a student accommodation officer at Portsmouth Polytechnic, a short stint as Co-op worker followed at Deptford Housing Co-operative before I joined Portsmouth Housing Association. In 23 years at PHA I worked in development and development finance as well as periods running the major repairs programmes and asset management latterly. In development I was responsible for initiating projects and managing them through to completion for both new builds and refurbishment. In 2008 I joined Southern Housing Group based at Theale as the local development team manager and spent 2 years there. In my personal life I was heavily involved in housing co-operatives in Portsmouth from 1981 through to moving to Devon in 2013, firstly in Spithead HC and then in Southsea Self Help HC from 1984 onwards. For 4 years in the late 80's and early 90's I was involved in the defunct National Federation of Housing Co-ops, as Treasurer for 3 years and as Chairperson in my last year of involvement.

I’ve a Ph.D in American History and have worked as a chief executive in the NHS. With my partner Sue, I’ve lived in Hollocombe for almost 10 years. I’m interested in all aspects of politics, including the future of the countryside and rural villages, and, of course, the future of the NHS. You’ll often see me with my dogs, Zante and Pebbles, walking around the woods in the area. I was recently co-opted onto Winkleigh Parish Council.

After a Geography degree I took a post-graduate degree in Planning, qualifying as a chartered town planner in 1977. After a spell in the North East I moved back home to the South West, working initially for Yeovil District Council before re-locating to Devon and coming to live in Winkleigh in 1980. After a career break to raise children,I joined West Devon’s Local Plan team, becoming team manager and taking the District’s first adopted plan through to completion. In 1999 I moved to the Devon Structure Plan team at County Hall, initially to fill a seconded position with the Regional Assembly, preparing the first Regional Planning Guidance for the South West and then subsequently reviewing the Devon Structure Plan to reflect the new guidance. During the latter process I became officer lead for housing in Devon, liaising with Districts and other Counties on housing targets and commissioning and managing Strategic Housing Market Assessments on behalf of cross border partnerships. Following the abolition of Structure Plans I moved sideways to lead a team at the County Council specialising in the policy aspects of climate change, carbon management and renewable energy. I carried this specialism into semi-retirement, working on a contract basis for South Hams and West Devon to review aspects of their Local Plan policy prior to new plans being prepared.

A life long interest in health initiated by some physiotherapy training. Having to relocate due to marriage moved through working in banking; p.a./administration work in marketing (retail and employment agency fields); managing personal telephone answering service in Chelsea; a bursar at a CH(E) with Barnardos. After living and working in NZ for two years returned & retrained as remedial masseur & complementary therapist with own practice. Retired to Winkleigh 2000 from Surrey. Personally, I was usually involved in voluntary work from Victim Support, Meals on Wheels, working with young people under non-custodial sentences from the courts to replanting schemes after the hurricane in the South. I also refurbished 4 homes so that I could retire mortgage free.
