Neighborhood Portfolio

We are at the end of our Neighborhood Unit. I hope that you have learned a little about Chicago, your community and your neighborhood. It takes many people, organizations, institutions, events and revenue to keep your city, community and neighborhood running as smoothly as possible.

To demonstrate what knowledge you have accumulated and how well you understand it, you will construct a portfolio or collection of work from this unit. You will then reflect on the collection of work explaining what you learned and how you will apply this knowledge.

The project is due on February 16, 2010.

1. Organize the following work:

D. Maps: Chicago, Metropolitan, Neighborhood

2. Write reflections on the following

A. Five Bell Ringers – Pick 5 bell ringers that you found interesting and explain why.

B. Article Reviews – Pick 2 article reviews and reflect on them.

C. Discussions – Pick 1 discussion/topic that you found interesting and explain why.

D. Exercises – Pick 2 activities to write about and explain why you liked or didn’t like

doing it.

E. Essay – Write a minimum 2,500 word reflection essay on what you have learned and

why it is important.

3. Presentation – (A template will be provided)

A. Power Point Presentation on your neighborhood. Presentation must cover the following:

Five elements of your neighborhood (Social, Economic, Cultural, Physical and Government)

B. Walking Tour of your neighborhood – Seven interesting things you would show someone

about your community.

4. What I expect to see when you turn this project in:

A. A soft binder with an original cover that reflects the theme of the unit.

B. A Table of Contents

C. Collection of work in order

D. Collection of assignments in order (Work must be typed in the required page setup criteria)

E. Powerpoint/MovieMaker Presentation submitted on Weblocker
