Required Text:Practical Guide for Clinical Neurophysiologic Testing: EP, LTM, IOM, PSG, and NCS (Yamada & Meng, 2011);NDT 288 course materials. All texts should be in stock in the bookstore under the NDT heading.

Course Overview: This course presents concepts, terminology and techniques of Evoked Potential (EP) recording. An overview of computers and EP instrumentation will be discussed. EP testing modalities of visual, auditory, and somatosensory systems will be discussed individually. The application of EP testing in neonates, as well as computation and collection of normative data will be presented. The course instruction will include lecture, demonstration, and PowerPoint presentation, as well as lab. The lab sessions will provide an opportunity to record EP tests, from the various modalities, on your fellow student volunteers.

Course Assignments:

1. A critique of an article from a professional journal on any topic relevant to the course. The critique will be type written and will be given orally in a summarized fashion. Examples of critique format will be given. VALUE: 50 pts.

2. Lab assignments corresponding to the six lab sessions. Each lab assignment will be valued at 25 pts. and will be turned-in one week after the lab. VALUE: 150 pts.

3. Four exams worth 60 pts. each, for a total of 240 points. Each exam will test information from the preceding lectures and labs and are NOT comprehensive.

4. Final comprehensive exam worth 310 pts.

5. Lab final exam worth 200 pts.

6. Attendance & participation worth 50 pts.

College Policies and Regulations:

Students are expected to be familiar with the OCC policies listed in the college catalog (2013/2014). Expectations for student conduct and academic honesty will be followed. Specific to this class, is the expectation that all students do their own work in both lab assignments and exams.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The student will be able to:

1. Perform accurate and interpretable EP recordings according to ACNS minimal guidelines on human volunteers in the classroom lab setting.

2. List and identify normal EP patterns in the infant, pediatric and adult age groups, as well as EP abnormal patterns associated with neurological disorders.
