NCS TEAM LEADER – SUMMER 2016

POST: NCS Team Leader (Summer 2016)

RESPONSIBLE TO: NCS Co-ordinator and NCS Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: NCS Assistant Team Leader

RATE OF PAY: £1280 4 week programme including a training weekend. A £30 payment will be paid additionally for any night duty on residential.

Training weekend will take place on the 1/04/16 and attendance is essential.

Keep warms and inductions will be paid on an hourly rate of £8 an hour.

If you were presented a contract you would work ONLY ONE of the below options unless other stated.

Option 1 – 2 waves (8 weeks FT)
Wave 1: 27th June – 22nd July
Wave 4: 25th July – 19th August / Option 2 – 2 waves (8 weeks FT)
Wave 2: 4th July – 29th July
Wave 5: 1st August – 26th August
Option 3 – 2 waves (8 weeks FT)
Wave 3: 11th July – 5th August
Wave 6: 8th August – 2nd September

FORMAT:

Week 1: Monday to Friday: Away Residential – Activity week

Week 2: Monday to Friday: Home Residential – Skills building

Week 3-4: Social Action Project – NON residential

Graduation Night: TBC

Training Weekend: 1/04/16

General roles and responsibilities:

•  Be responsible for up to 15 young people in a team.

•  Provide the supervision, motivation and inspiration to help your team succeed and enjoy the NCS experience.

•  Keep your team focussed and on track with the programme.

•  Assist in the delivery of activities for participants.

•  Ensure that young people complete the required 30 hours of social planning and action.

•  Act as liaison during the NCS programme for young people aged 16-17 and their parents/carers with NCS.

•  Resolve minor issues on a daily basis, ensuring active engagement and communication towards safeguarding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Welfare:

•  Ensure group harmony and facilitate group dynamics.

•  Tackling any problems and resolving confrontation.

•  Safeguarding of young people is paramount and YOU MUST report any issues to the Co-ordinator & NCS Project Manager.

•  Report any concerns / incidents to the Co-ordinator as soon as possible.

•  Administer basic First Aid, if required, in line with first aid training.

•  Complete the Incident report form within 48 hours of any incident taking place.

NCS activities:

•  Provide support during NCS to your allocated team.

•  Ensure all activities are undertaken in the spirit and ethos of NCS.

•  Ensure young people observe rules pertaining to appropriate behaviour and conduct at all times as laid out in the NCS Code of Conduct.

•  Uphold and positively contribute to the outstanding reputation of Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and the ethos of NCS.

•  Take action if inappropriate behaviour happens (procedures will be covered during training).

Residential events:

•  Provide support and team leadership for the young people.

•  Be an active member and ambassador of NCS.

•  Responsible for registering attendance of young people.

•  Keep your team on task and punctual to each and all activities.

•  Support the team with shared night duty responsibilities.

•  Provide first aid responsibilities for your team.

•  Lead on social action activities whilst guiding your team through the process.

•  Be proactive and decisive.

•  Be responsible for 15 young people and one assistant.

Guided Reflection:

•  Ensure that your group members share NCS experiences and facilitate the daily process of Guided Reflection.

Training:

•  Attend the Team Leader training events including First Aid, Safeguarding Children, Risk Assessments, Guided Reflection, and Team Building.

•  Attend residential training as set by Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme.

General:

•  Represent SWFCCP during NCS in a professional manner.

•  Promote and safeguard the welfare of young people for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.

•  Any other duties, consistent with the main purpose of the job, as may be specified from time to time.

Experience required for the post:

•  Prior experience of working with teenagers in a supervisory role is desirable.

•  Must be able to demonstrate problem solving skills, ability to motivate, inspire and use your own initiative.

•  Full UK driving licence and a car available for work use is desirable – or access to regular and reliable public transport.

•  DBS is essential

•  First aid certificate is desirable

Proven Skills:

•  Must be able to demonstrate an ability to build a rapport with young people and maintain effective, professional relationships.

•  Must be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively and respectfully resolve potential or existing conflicts, showing creativity and resourcefulness.

Personal Qualities:

•  A genuine interest in the welfare of young people and commitment to supporting them throughout the duration of NCS.

•  Strong interpersonal skills and good verbal communication skills.

•  Confidence in developing the respect of young people.

•  Enthusiasm and drive to ensure successful delivery of NCS.

•  Empathic, sensitive and approachable nature.

•  Tolerance and patience.

•  Ability to remain calm and composed in difficult situations.

•  Sound judgement and responsible nature.

•  Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

•  Ability to lead and work as part of a team.

•  Flexible approach to work.

•  Commitment to support young people throughout the duration of NCS.

Targets:

•  Successfully assist the Co-ordinator to lead your team of young people to complete the NCS programme

•  Ensure the safety and welfare of young people at all times.

•  Successfully support the assistant team leader and any volunteers.

•  Make sure team is punctual.

•  Maintain registers and keep young people organised.
