Training Development Subcommittee

  • Divisional Assessment Showcase – Went VERY well! It was helpful for everyone to see what other departments are assessing
  • Brown Bag session – discussed article regarding Ohio State University Financial Aid assessment. Mark Humbert & Kathy Pagano talked about how Oswego student compare: “on par with Ohio students.” Attendees felt that discussion was interesting & helpful. We ALL deal with students who may have finance-related issues.
  • AssessmentDigest will be distributed to studaffairs listserv (importantdates, tips about assessment, etc) every Friday
  • Possible upcoming focus group training – if interested, let Sara/Christy know
  • Upcoming events:
  • March – webinar (date TBA)
  • April – workshop (date TBA)
  • June – assessment retreat (Topic/idea you’d like to learn more about? Contact Christy/Sara)

Marketing & Communication Subcommittee

  • SAEM Assessment webpage:
  • JJ & Rick are continuing their work on the assessment website
  • Currently creating the structure of the assessment webpage to make it more engaging
  • Assessments should be available on the website, but we need to decide what data is available to specific campus representatives versus the general public
  • “We Heard Your Voice” campaigns will be deployed through digital signage & flyers. A different department will be featured each month:

Spring 2016:

End of February: Athletics

End of March: Residence Life

End of April: Intramurals/Recreation

Fall 2016:

September: Auxiliary Services

October: Lifestyles Center

November: Disability Support Services

December: Counseling Services Center

The campaigns address:

  • What did you find out?
  • What did you do/change as a result of that information?

Progress Updates

  • Residence Life: Working on Part III’s, applied for grant funding for “Well-being Scale” that is being used in Johnson Hall. Although not approved for funding this cycle, RLH was strongly encouraged reapply for the grant
  • Campus Recreation:Conducting NASPA Benchmarking this semester – currently determining what local questions they would like to add to the survey
  • Financial Aid: Participated in Showcase & Brown bag - realized there is a lot more information that can be shared regarding assessment
  • Walker Health Center: Considering conducting National user/non-user survey (previously conducted using our students only);conducted benchmarking on STD’s versus Nat’l data. Determined our campus has a higher number of STD’s comparatively. Responding to those results in a multitude of ways: contracted with OCO to provide free STD testing on campus, etc.
  • Counseling Services: Waiting for approval to administer NASPA Benchmarking tool - Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms (CCAPS) survey
  • Career Services:Continuously administer satisfaction survey to users of the Compass Resource Center – recently changed method from paper/pencil to electronic –survey now accessible using Resource Center computers or using Q codes scanned into smartphones; also conducting website assessment – currently using Google Analytics to track website usage and hits on links
  • Student Conduct: Currently conducting NASPA consortium benchmark with sample size of 1300 students. To date, approximately 208 responses received – a reminder will be sent out 2/15 & survey ends in March. The instrument itself is heavy on academic integrity, but Conduct added 10 questions of their own to get at more of the issues seen on our campus
  • Athletics:Fall Athlete Satisfaction Survey has been completed and will be presented at next meeting on March 17th; Student Study Table assessment completed and Part III just handed in
  • Auxiliary Services: College Store survey currently taking place – people received email invites, but there is also a computer set up in the College Store so people can choose to participate in survey even if they were not selected to receive an emailed invitation
  • Disability Services: Currently assessing the effectiveness of note-taking pens; Disability Services has become aware through communication on a Listserv that other campuses have had issues with note-taking pens and those locations are looking into using smartphones as note-taking tools –may look into this as another option for students

Congratulations on the “Around the Room!” Everyone in attendance was prepared and able to actively speak about assessment efforts for their department. Great work everyone!

Director’s Meeting Update

  • Directors were encouraged to connect conversations regarding assessment between those conducting the assessment with the department representatives or team and directors
  • Each department should discuss assessment regularly at departmental staff meetings

NOTE

We all need to look at assessment through the lens of “How will you be using this assessment data for continuous improvement.” Part of the team member’s responsibility is to try to influence departments to view assessment through this lens also.

Next Assessment Team Meeting: Thursday, March 17th, 1:00-2:00pm, 133 Marano CC
