Reasons:
Barbara Morgan is known as a worldwide leader in the field of catechetics. Barbara Morgan is the foundress of the Catechetics program at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where she taught from 1994-2005. At the request of Christoph Cardinal Schönborn of Vienna, editor of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Barbara founded an international association of catechetical institutes, Amiticia. Also at his request, she established a relationship between the Office of Catechetics, Maryvale Institute in England, and the Studium of Notre Dame de Vie in Venasque, France. To serve those catechists and teachers in the field who were unable to come to Franciscan to pursue degrees, she also founded the St. John Bosco Conference for Catechists and Religious Educators held every summer at Franciscan.She was the driving force behind the resurrection of The Sower, the most significant catechetical journal in the entire English speaking world. Barbara has authored and co-authored several books on Catechetics and the RCIA process. As an expert consultant, she was invited by nine bishops to do Catechist Training for their dioceses, and was invited by Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) to the first Congress on the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its release as one of only fifteen lay people. She retired from the University in 2005, seeking to contribute to the catechetical formation of her 40+ grandchildren. In addition to serving her growing family, she is currently the Director of Religious Education at Christ the King Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, MI.
We believe that Barbara Morgan deserves to be recognized and encouraged for giving her entire life in service of advancing the principal aims of catechesis out of love of Christ and His Church.
