PRE-FLIGHT -EXTERNAL:
Unlock - CONFIRM - IGNITION & SWITCHES - OFF - SET MIXTURE to Idle Cut Off - PULL OUT
REMOVE - PROTECTION COVERS:
___ Bird - Engine (2)
___ Bird - Tail (2)
___ Static Source Vents - L&R (2)
___ Pitot Tube (1)
___ Fuel Vents: L-Tip, R-Tip, Main (3)
___ Hydraulic Reservoir Vent (1)
___ Canopy
WALK AROUND:
Check- Control Surfaces for movement and for tightness of control rods
Check- for general leaks - check belly
Check- fasteners and hinges - skin damage
Check- for loose screws in farings
Check -Windshield and windows - clean if req. (Don't Wipe in Circles!)
Check- Tires: Main 35#, nose 45#
Check- Strut Clearance: Mains: 1 5/8 in. min 2 1/2 - 3" typ., nose 2 1/2 in. min.
Check- Bumpers on gear extension rods (Critical for up lock)
Check- Prop for Nicks -Leaks at Hub -Spinner
FUEL:
Visual Check L&R Tips & Main (Confirm amount with gages & fuel flow meter)
Fuel cap secure, Tip tank Plugs secure-and covers secure
Vents Open - 3 - L-Tip, R-Tip, Main
Sample fuel from tanks and sump:- Belly 4-points plus L&R Tips
Engine Compartment:- open both covers
Oil Level - 9 Quarts minimum
Hydraulic Fluid - @ top hole on dip stick
Battery vent tube in place
General condition - leaks etc.
Oil Temp Gage - tight
Wires and their connections
Remove Chocks and Tie Down
Baggage Area:
Baggage & loose objects - Secure
Emergency Batt Connection-Locked
Weight & Balance Checked
Note Landing Wt Max & Fuel in Tip Restriction
Door - closed and locked
NIGHT - Visual Check All Lights - Nav., Strobes and Panel
Flashlight/Batteries Available
PRESTART
Cockpit Check:
Flight Plan and required charts at hand
All switches - OFF
Check All Circuit Breakers IN
Auto Pilot-OFF
Altitude Hold - OFF
Mixture-FULL RICH Push IN
Cowl Flaps Open - PULL OUT
Prop Pitch Control - (Black) Max RPM - Push IN
Throttle - (Blue) FULL IN
Flap Handle - UP - locked in notch - To Right
Ldg Gear Handle - DOWN
(check-locked in detent!)
Hydraulic Power - ON (PULL OUT)
Hydraulic Shutoff - OPEN or OFF -- all the way IN
Parking Brake - DO NOT USE
(Toe Brakes + Pull ON) Note sometimes difficult to disengage - use only if necessary!
Fuel - Main Tank Arrow Fwd.
STARTING ENGINE
Battery - ON
Fuel Quantity --Check Gages- Throttle,Mix & Prop Full Fwd
Hi Fuel boost to 7± psi Throttle OUT. Then in ½”
Mags on - BOTH
Clear AREA call "Clear Prop"
Engage starter
Alternator - ON (After start)
Strobes - ON (After start)
AFTER ENGINE STARTS
CHECK-Oil Pressure - Note Temp. Positions
CHECK-Fuel Pressure/Manifold Pressure/RPM
TURN ON-Emergency Avionics Power- Confirm Function (COM One)-Then Off
AVIONICS MASTER- to On
SET - FUEL Quantity in Fuel Flow Meter
SET - COMM Freq as Req.
TURN ON GPS (Push-in)
TURN ON Digital Altitude Encoder
SET-Altimeter --Note Barometric Pressure
Check or Set - Clock
SET-COM & Nav Radios to proper initial frequencies
TURN ON Transponder-to Standby; and--
SET- SQUAWK to1200 or clearance code
SET-Elevator Trim Tab to neutral
Confirm -Strobes - ON
Check & Clear Area -- Ready to Taxi
VERIFY FUEL FLOW during Taxi or at run-up. If flt to exceed 2hrs.
CHECK RIGHT TIP TANK FUEL FLOW- 1 min
CHECK LEFT TIP TANK FUEL FLOW - 1 min
RETURN FUEL SELECT(Ctr & Fwd) TO MAIN
RUN-UP
FUEL on Main Tank - REconfirm!
CONFIRM COWL FLAPS OPEN
BRAKES - ON Hold Toe Brakes
THROTTLE to 1700 RPM
CHECK IGNITION -- RPM & MP drop = 125rpm & 50rpm diff.
PROP - Cycle low/high @(2000 rpm if req)
GAUGES-All Green (Oil Pres & Temp - CHT)
CHECK elevator; aerlons, rudder -- free & proper
CHECK Electric Trim - Confirm Trim set for TO
SET Wing Flaps 17.5º Blk Mk (Max=Aerlon Droop)
DOOR Closed and Locked
SEAT BELTS- Fastened - Confirm Passengers
TURN Transponder to ON
SET Nav OBS Headings -Confirm freq. req.
TURN ON Pitot Heat if Required
TAKEOFF:
Parking Brakes - OFF
Reconfirm surface wind
Call Tower or CTAF - declare intentions
Confirm: MP, RPM, Fuel Flow during TO Roll
Confirm Runway Heading on HSI
Recommended Rotation - 60kts
CLIMB OUT
Gear Up - (Pull Handle Out -Release Side Lock)
(Do NOT force handle up manually)
Flaps UP
Hydraulic Power-Off-Push IN
No Red Gear Warning Light
Reduce M.P. to 23in
Reduce RPM to 2450 (note MP will now be 24")
Climb IAS 90K, 24in @2450 RPM
Confirm Transponder - ON
CRUISE - Use Performance Chart
MP - 24; Prop 2400; 15.0 GPH @ 2000' 75%
MP - 24; Prop 2400; 14.4 GPH @ 5500' 70%
MP - 21; Prop 2300; 12.3 GPH @ 6500' 60%
Close Cowl Flaps after level 5 min.
LEAN - use EGT L&R
Cruise Climb - @ l05K. - 24in/2450RPM/16.5GPH
To increase power
l. Increase RPM if less than 2450
2. Increase MP
3. Adjust Mixture Lean
To decrease Power
l. Enrich mixture
2. Reduce MP
3. Reduce RPM
APPROACH - LANDING
If VFR Air Close Flight Plan
Fuel on MainTank
Strobes - ON
Increase Fuel Flow to 15 GPH
Reduce Manifold Pressure to 20 in
Reduce Airspeed to 100 Kts
Reduce Manifold Pressure to 17 In.
Reduce Airspeed to 80-85 Kts.- Downwind Entry
Hydraulic Power - ON (Pull Out) - Press: 1125+lbs
Lower Landing Gear (under 105kts)
Confirm - THREE GREEN LIGHTS
Landing Lights - ON as req.
Set Flaps 40% - 17.5deg (toBlk Mark) -LOCK in notch
Adjust Power to maintain Airspeed
Mixture Full Rich - Push In
Prop - Max RPM-Push In
Partially or Fully Open Cowl Flaps
Approach Air Speed 80 K; l/2 Flaps with ll"MP
Approach Air Speed 75 K; full Flaps with 13"MP
ON GROUND - TAXI
Cowl Flaps fully Open - Pull Out
Flaps UP - AFTER landing roll
Ground Control Freq. - Transponder - Off
Note/Record Flight Time at stop
SHUT DOWN
Flaps Full Down
Avionics Master - OFF
Idle Engine (1000rpm) to cool
All Overhead Switches except BAT/ALT- OFF
Mixture full Lean - PULL OUT
Ignition Switch- OFF - Show Keys to Line Attendant
BAT & ALT Switch - OFF
Push-in MIXTURE - Only enough to Clear Cont Wheel
Close Cowl Flaps - PUSH IN
Log Flight Time and Tach Reading
Secure Cabin Area
