To log-in to Naviance Student (formerly Family Connection):

  • Go to
  • Your User ID is your student number
  • Your password is yourdate of birth with no spaces, ex:(01221995)

is acceptable)Go to ‘My Planner’ in Menu bar, click ‘Tasks’ then scroll down to the ‘Tasks you Need to Work On’ box. Download, complete and return.

Transcript Requests (for College Apps and NCAA):

  • Click the ‘Colleges’ tab at the top of the page
  • Select ‘Colleges I’m applying to’, then click the ‘+’ sign to the right
  • Answer all questions.

Be sure to select the correct application type (i.e. Regular or Early Decision, Rolling, Priority, etc.), which will determine the college/university deadline for all documents to be received. THIS IS THE DATE THAT WE USE IN THE OFFICE FOR SUBMITTING COLLEGE DOCUMENTS.

Choose how you will submit your application (Common App or Institution Application). DO NOT SUBMIT AS “I’M NOT SURE YET”.

  • Click ‘Add and Request Transcript’, check all boxes, click ‘Request and Finish’
  • Requests for the NCAA Eligibility Center are handled as if it were for a college application. (Just type NCAA)
  • Bring payment to Ms. Garcia in Counseling. The first three transcripts are free, all after that are $5 each. You do not need to request mid-year or final transcripts. Transcript requests for scholarships, nominations, and the NCAA are also free of charge.
  • ALLOW 10 BUSINESS DAYS,PRIOR TO YOUR DEADLINE(S), FORTHE PROCESSING OF TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS

Transcript Requests (for anything other than College Apps):

  • FERPA consent form must be completed (see instructions above)
  • Click ‘Colleges’ at the top of the page
  • Select ‘College Home’, scroll down to ‘Apply to Colleges’
  • Click ‘Manage Transcripts’ then the ‘+’ on the right, select ‘Other Transcript’
  • Complete all necessary information. If you do not need your transcript mailed, please indicate in the notes section how you would like to receive it (i.e. electronic submission, pick up, etc.)
  • Select ‘Request and Finish’

Signing Up for a College Visit:

  • Click the ‘Colleges’ tab at the top, then ‘Colleges Home’
  • Scroll down to the ‘College Visits’ box, click “Show More”, click “Register Now” and print your confirmation

GPA, Class Rank, Test Scores and Resume

  • GPA and CLASS RANK -Click ‘About Me’ at the top menu bar, select ‘My Account’
  • TEST SCORES- Select ‘About Me’, ‘My Stuff’, ‘Test Scores’
  • RESUME-Click ‘About Me’, ‘My Stuff’, ‘Resume’

The resume will assist counselors and teachers in writing recommendations for college applications

How to Match Naviance to the Common Application (CA)-if your college uses the Common Application

  • Log into your Common App Account (CA)
  • In the “Education” section of your CA, make sure C.D. Hylton is listed
  • In the “College Search” section of your CA, make sure you have your CA colleges listed
  • In the “My Colleges” section of CA, click on “Recommenders and FERPA” on the left margin
  • Answer all questions on the FERPA Release Authorization section, checking necessary boxes
  • You are done with the Common App. portion of matching!
  • Now, sign into your Naviance Student account
  • Click on “Colleges” (top right), then click “Colleges I’m Applying To”
  • In the red box, enter your Common App e-mail address and your date of birth
  • Click “Match”…..make sure your Common App name and Naviance name are exactly the same

Requesting a Counselor Recommendation

  • Complete the “College Planning Questionnaire” found under “About Me”, “My Stuff”, “My Survey”
  • Notify your counselor via e-mail that you have completed the questionnaire and ask him/her to please write you a letter of recommendation to your colleges. (Remember to give two weeks advance notice!)

Requesting a Teacher Recommendation(do this before requesting transcripts, so it will be sent out together)

  • Select“Colleges”(top right) and select “Colleges Home”
  • Scroll down to “Apply to Colleges” and click on the “Letters of Recommendation” link
  • Click add/cancel requests
  • Select teacher from drop-down menu (if the teacher is not on the list, ask the teacher to e-mail Mrs. Main)
  • Select the schools you wish the letter to be sent to (pay attention to the max and min number of recommendations allowed)
  • Leave a note if you wish
  • Click Submit Requests

Looking for Scholarships

  • Select “Colleges” (top right) and select “Colleges Home”
  • Select Scholarship List/Match (local scholarships) or National Scholarship Search, in the “Scholarships and Money” section
  • Select and apply to any scholarships that you are eligible for
  • Remember to request transcripts through Naviance Student (see transcript section)
  • Don’t forget to check Hylton’s College/Career website for scholarships too!

Add/update e-mail Address

  • Select “About Me” (top right of the page)
  • Select “My Account”
