National Shed Development Program (NSDP)

Purpose

The Australian Men’s Sheds Association (AMSA) administers the National Shed Development Program (the Program) on behalf of the Australian Government in order to provide direct financial assistance to Men’s Sheds across Australia with priority given to those sheds in areas of greatest need.

Overview

Individual Men’s Sheds in Australia can apply for a range of financial support across the following three funding categories:

  • Category One: Tools, Equipment, Community Projects & Training to a maximum of $5,000
  • Category Two: Building Maintenance & Development to a maximum of $7,500
  • Category Three: Health Improvement Activities to a maximum of $5,000

Applicants can apply for the maximum in each Category HOWEVER if an applicant is recommended in more than one category, the maximum funding allocated will be capped at $8,000

This program allows Men’s Sheds and organisations supporting a Men’s Shed within their community to apply for funds to better respond to local needs.

The funding available includes provisions for Men’s Sheds to apply to AMSA for items such as:

  • tools and equipment
  • purpose built workspaces
  • improvements to existing Men Shed facilities
  • costs incurred to undertake activities that raise awareness of preventable health problems, promote or support the health and wellbeing of members
  • costs associated with provision of training, seminars or undertaking major community projects

Limitations

Any Men’s Shed that is a registered legal entity can apply.

If the Men’s Shed is not a registered legal entity, an overseeing sponsor body can act on behalf of a Men’s Shed and submit an application. If a sponsor body acts as an applicant, written consent must be in place in the form of a signed Memorandum of Understanding/Agreement between the Shed and applying body and this document must accompany the application as an attachment.

Purpose

The Social Enterprise Development and Investment Funds (SEDIF) improves access to finance and support for social enterprises to help them grow their business and increase the impact of their work in their communities.

Overview

Finance for Social Enterprise: The Social Enterprise Development and Investment Funds explains social enterprises and the support that the SEDIF offers.

Three SEDIF fund managers have been selected to offer social enterprises finance, such as loans, and support. The SEDIF fund managers are:

  • Social Enterprise Finance Australia
  • Social Ventures Australia

Social enterprises can contact the SEDIF fund managers directly to discuss their financing needs.

Limitations

Social enterprises can be found in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors and come in a variety of forms such as independent businesses, co-operatives, community enterprise, social businesses and the trading arms of charities. Social enterprises are found across a range of industries such as hospitality, early learning and childcare, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, renewable energy and recycling services.

Development Grants for Individuals and Groups

Purpose

Development Grants fund a range of activities that benefit your career as an individual artist or group. Development grants are available from $5,000 to $25,000. Supported activities must last no longer than two years from the proposed start date.

Overview

Our development grants fund a range of activities that benefit the careers of individual artists or groups. Examples of the activity this grant supports include professional skills development, showcase opportunities, forum/workshop attendance, residencies, mentorships, arts market attendance and exploration.

In 2016, applications to the Development Grants program close on:

For 2016, the closing dates are at midnight on the:

  • 2 February 2016, for projects starting after 1 May 2016
  • 7 June 2016, for projects starting after 1 September 2016
  • 4 October 2016, for projects starting after 1 January 2017

The previously published 1 December 2015 closing date has been cancelled.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application approximately 12 weeks after the closing date.

You can apply for a range of activities. Some examples of the activities we fund are:

Who can apply

If you are applying as an individual or group, you must be a practicing artist or arts worker and an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident.

Applications for funding to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts panel must come from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals or groups.

Who can’t apply

You can’t apply for a grant if:

  • you received a grant, or administered a grant, from the Australia Council in the past and that grant has not been satisfactorily acquitted
  • you owe money to the Australia Council.

What you can’t apply for

You can’t apply for the following activity:

  • projects or activities that do not involve or benefit practicing artists or arts workers
  • projects or activities that do not have a clearly defined arts component
  • projects that have already taken place.

Whole Kids Small Seeds Community Grants Program.

Purpose

Whole Kids Small Seeds Community Grants Program supports grassroots organisations and groups that are working hard in their local communities to improve children’s health and wellbeing through innovative and impactful projects.

Overview

Whole Kids Small Seeds seeks to provide funds to organisations and groups that work at developing creative and innovative solutions to root-cause problems at the local community level. We look for projects that have strong local community support and participation as we believe that lasting change comes about at the local level through direct community involvement.

We select projects that aim to deliver positive impacts in one or more of the following areas:

  • Improving children’s nutrition and access to healthy food.
  • Reducing environmental health risks to children.
  • Encouraging greater access for children to education and learning opportunities.
  • Building stronger local communities for families and children.
  • Creating safe areas for children’s play, recreation and enjoyment.
  • Enhancing children’s mental health and wellbeing.
  • Protecting children’s human rights and promoting social justice.
  • Protecting our environment, wildlife and natural wilderness for current and future generations of children.

Our approach is to focus on projects that primarily support children aged 12 years and under. We look for projects that have clearly defined objectives and expected outcomes, including viable and realistic capabilities and plans to achieve them.

Whole Kids Small Seeds will provide a one-off grant up to $5,000 for an individual project. Our preference, however, is to select projects that we can fully fund at lower grant amounts. In this way, we can help fund more projects in more communities.

Limitations

To be eligible for consideration for a Whole Kids Small Seeds Community Grant, all applicants mustdemonstrate the following:

  • Be a legal entity, community group or an incorporate non-profit organisation.
  • Have a current ABN.
  • Have a current Australian bank account in the name of the community group or non-profit organisation.
  • Have an Australian-based community project that meets one or more of our focus areas.
  • Submit a completed online application form before the funding closing date.
  • Have read, and agree to, the Whole Kids Small Seeds Community Grants Terms and Conditions and submission criteria.

Whole Kids Small Seeds will assess each grant application on its individual merits and the potential benefits the project aims to provide to the local community in one or more of our focus areas. However, there are some applications that Small Seeds will not fund, including:

  • Individuals.
  • Government departments, agencies and local councils.
  • Religious groups.
  • Overseas programs and projects.
  • Registered political parties.
  • Research and development, unless it is tightly linked to a direct-action campaign on a relevant issue, with specific goals that go beyond education and awareness.
  • General fundraising activities and appeals.
  • Media projects, unless the project is tightly linked to a direct-action campaign on a relevant issue, with specific goals that go beyond general education and awareness.
  • Normal operating expenses of an organisation or group, including salaries, travel, office expenses and administration costs.
  • Capital funds, building funds and investments.
  • General maintenance.
  • Retrospective funding for projects already commenced or completed.
  • Collection of funds for redistribution to other charities or individuals.
  • Repayment of loans and budget deficits.
  • Any project that may be detrimental to the environment or to children’s health and wellbeing.
  • Any project that is inconsistent or incompatible with our focus areas.

Community Investment Program

Purpose

To invest in our community as a way to build relationships and develop partnerships with our many stakeholders.

Overview

City West Water provides services to Melbourne's CBD and inner and western suburbs and provides limited support at corporate, commercial and local community levels within our licence area.Corporate and commercial stakeholders, and local community groups coordinating events and programs that benefit the community within our service area can apply for support including:

  • In-kind sponsorship - In kind support includes provision of corporate promotional materials, mobile drinking fountain and/or education trailer.
  • Financial Support - A limited amount of financial support is available for events and groups that meet the published guidelines.
  • Mobile Water Fountain - There are two drinking fountains that are available at no cost for community events that occur in the service area and meet the published guidelines.

Criteria: Before your application for assistance can be considered the event or program must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • does the activity/event occur within City West Water's licence area?
  • is there a focus on water and/or water conservation?
  • does the organisation or event reflect City West Water's values?
  • does the organisation or event provide avenues to promote our key messages and programs?
  • does the activity/event benefit the community in City West Water's licence area?

All applications shall be reviewed according to our criteria and social strategy principles, and a response will be provided within three weeks of receipt of the application.

Limitations

City West Water generally limits sponsorship support for events and/or to organisations within our license boundary area.

City West Water does not generally support the following types of requests:

  • unincorporated groups or bodies which do not have an Australian Business Number
  • events intended to provide profit or gain
  • delivery or replacement of core government services
  • donations for fundraising teams or individuals for charity
  • retrospective funding or budget deficits
  • beauty contests/pageants, events that involve gambling, exploit animals or promote tobacco or alcohol
  • events that discriminate adversely against any persons, organisations or groups or that are for individuals or political parties
  • events that have limited audience appeal or organisations that do not function for the wider benefit of the community
  • events which conflict with Government Policy or objectives
  • where the support is passed onto a third party in the form of a sponsorship or grant. City West Water's support is for the exclusive use of the applicant.

Overview

If your community group, sporting club or organization has a project that adds value to the community and you need funding to achieve your goals of bringing this project to life, the Carlisle Community Grants may be able to provide assistance.

With up to $50,000 available every quarter, it’s your chance to build and grow your community and enrich the lives of people in your area. Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will select appropriate community groups each quarter. If you are a community group or organisation that could do with a helping hand from Carlisle Homes, we invite you to apply.

There are a number of key elements to the judging and possible success of your application.

The key judging criterion centers on:

  • A specific and tangible project
  • The project has a positive impact / benefit on the immediate community
  • The group/organization and project must be within the Carlisle build zone
  • The originality of the project
  • The project is capable of being completed within 12 months
  • The number of likes on the Facebook Page and/or supporters on the Carlisle website for the project
  • The budget for the project is realistic

The Carlisle Community Grants support physical projects under a number of broad headings:

Limitations

Who can apply?

1.1An Applicant must:

  • be 18 years or over;
  • be an organisation, business, charity or not-for-profit organisation, whose main purpose benefits the community, (herein referred to as the “Applicant”).

1.2An Applicant must not be an individual, minor, political group, foundation, associated with the building industry or a staff member of the Promoter.

1.3The Applicant must have a genuine tangible project which will provide a benefit to the community in the Promoter’s Building Zone (as listed on (“the Project”).

1.4The Promoter reserves the right to request, at any time, an Applicant to produce appropriate identification (to the Promoter’s satisfaction in its sole discretion) in order to confirm the Applicant’s identity, age, or contact details. If the documentation required by the Promoter is not received by the Promoter or the Applicant’s eligibility has not been verified to the Promoter’s satisfaction, the entry will be deemed invalid.

1.5The Promoter reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require an Applicant to submit to a confidential background check to confirm eligibility and help ensure that the use of any such person in advertising or publicity of the Program will not bring the Promoter into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule or reflect unfavourably on the Promoter, its agents or the Program as determined by the Promoter in its sole and absolute discretion.

Purpose

To support initiatives that are youth-focused community organisations across Australia.

Overview

In 2016, we are pleased to be awarding $2 million in individual grants of up to $10,000 to youth-focused community organisations across Australia.

To be eligible to receive a Community Grant your organisation must run, manage, conduct or implement a program that supports children and youth up to the age of 21 years in Australia.

The assessment process

  1. State-based Committees made up of Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund members judge each application against the judging matrix.
  2. Each Committee has a specific allocation of funds to award in its state.
  3. Each Committee will look at the aims of your program, the number of children or youth that benefit from the program, and its community benefits.

Limitations

To be eligible to receive a Community Grant each applying organisation (“Organisation”) must:

  • run, manage, conduct or implement programs (each an “Eligible Youth Program”) that support children and youth up to the age of twenty - one years old in Australia;
  • be endorsed with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status by the Australian Tax Office and maintain DGR status until such time as a Community Grant is paid; and
  • hold a current bank account in Australia in its name.

An Organisation may apply for a Community Grant for separate Eligible Youth Programs but only where each Eligible Youth Program:

  • is conducted in a separate location from any other Eligible Youth Program which is the subject of an application for a Community Grant; or
  • is managed by a part of the Organisation which operates out of its own distinct territorial location (eg. a State/Territory or part of a State/Territory).
