Guest Speaker A.J. Taylor Discusses Historic Metal Arrow Points at Great Sand Dunes August 20
Dr. A.J. Taylor, Executive Director of the Rio Grande County Museum in Del Norte, will present “San Luis Valley Historic Metal Points,” a discussion of her research into historic Native American metal arrow points found in Colorado. The program will be offered at 8:15 p.m. at the Great Sand Dunes amphitheater on Thursday, August 20.
Since moving to the San Luis Valley, Taylor has researched German prisoners of war who worked in the San Luis Valley from 1943-1945, Victorian era human hairwork, the 1885-1902 observatory that was built on Mount Lookout above Del Norte as part of the Presbyterian College of the Southwest, and historic Native American metal arrow points of Colorado. She currently is continuing to research historic metal arrow points of the American West, as well as frontier justice in the San Luis Valley, and historic gravestones of the region. Taylor has a Ph.D. in Anthropology from The University of Texas at Austin, a M.A. degree in Anthropology from Texas A&M University, and a B.A. in American History from Wayland Baptist College.
