Fun Fridays Continue! Join us for guided hikes at Coronado National Memorial. Learn about the cultural and natural history of the area while burning off some unwanted calories!

Friday July 25th will focus on birding with a walk along Montezuma Creek. It will begin at the visitor center at 7:00 am and will conclude at about 11:30 am. Look for jays, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and more. A good beginner’s hike, this walk will include many stops to look for wildlife.

Friday August 22nd will focus on birding in the grasslands. It will begin at the visitor center at 7:00 am and will conclude at about 11:30 am. Look for jays, quail, roadrunners, and more. A good beginner’s hike, this walk will include many stops to look for wildlife.

Friday September 26th will be a hike underground! Explore a natural limestone cave, complete with stalagmites, stalactites, and columns. Bring at least one flashlight (although it is nice to have a spare!) and wear good hiking shoes. The entrance into the cave can be difficult and may not be suitable for all visitors. The trail is about 1 mile each way, with a 500 foot elevation gain. This hike will begin at 8:00 am and will conclude at about 11:00 am.

Friday October 24th will feature a hike up Joe’s Canyon. This hike is about 3 miles each way, with a 1300 foot elevation gain. Beginning at 8:00 am from the visitor center and finishing at about noon, this hike will be a little more challenging, with stops along the way to observe birds and wildlife.

Participants should dress comfortably for the weather, wear sturdy hiking shoes and hat, and bring sunscreen and water. Meet for orientation at the visitor center parking lot. There is no charge for the hikes and reservations are not required. For additional information call Denise Shultz at 520-366-5515 ext. 22.
