National Information System on

Agricultural Education Network in India (NISAGENET)

National Statistical Commission (NSC-2001) and the Department of Secondary & Higher Education of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India recommended that educational statistics related to agricultural education should be regularly compiled by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India on an annual basis and a mechanism for the purpose to be established. Such statistics are needed for various policies and planning purposes for the educational and manpower planning in the country.To cater such requirements, this project, 'National Information System on Agricultural Education Network in India (NISAGENET)' has been approved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under its AP Cess Fund Scheme. The project is being executed at the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI), New Delhi. The project is of three years duration and has been started from 1st January 2005 to achieve the following objectives.

  1. Development of a database for NISAGENET with its information base available at IASRI network server containing the data collected from all the SAUs and DeemedUniversities of ICAR.
  2. Development of dynamic web page solutions as user interfaces for on-line data entry, data updation, and modification.
  3. Development of dynamic web page solutions for different reports and queries to meet NSC recommendations and other class of users for agriculture.
  4. Implementation of NISAGENET on the Internet.

The IASRI has taken up lead to develop a web based on-line information system for National Information System on Agricultural Education Network in India with the usual facilities of updating, retrieval and dissemination of information at the national level. The system will be capable of maintaining an up-to- agricultural education data bank and providing answers to assessment of agricultural education related queries covering all important aspects like characteristics of agricultural universities/institutions, colleges under different universities, teaching programmes offered, infrastructure facilities available in different universities, manpower in agricultural universities like cadre-wise manpower, function-wise manpower distribution, sex-wise and grade-wise distribution of faculty and R&D information like university research funding, university-wise distribution of projects, technologies developed, SAUs achievements, SAUs publications etc.

The NISAGENET will be useful to academicians, planners, policy makers, scientists and technologists, students for undergoing higher education in agriculture, and other related individuals and institutions.
