NGA is the national membership organisation for school governors and trustees in England, and we work to improve the effectiveness of governing boards across the country. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and services. We have in recent years developed our service offer to include consultancy, face to face training and online training for governors.

The post holder will be joining our Business Development Team to manage the administration and delivery of NGA’s training offer. The candidate will work closely alongside our Business Development Manager and Head of Training to ensure that services are delivered to a high standard and within budget.

Job Purpose /
  • To manage the administration and delivery of NGA’s face to face training services
  • To manage the administration and delivery of NGA’s e-learning service Learning Link
  • To ensure that services are delivered to a high standard and within budgets set,
  • To contribute to the continued improvement and development of NGA's training services

Line Manager / Business Development Director
Based / NGA Headquarters, 36 Great Charles Street, Birmingham, B3 3JY
Salary / Starting salary between £29,000 to £33,000 depending on experience (with future increments linked to performance)
Hours / Full-time (35 hours/week)
Benefits / Contributory pension scheme (at 6% employer’s contribution) to begin after passing the six-month probation period.
Holiday entitlement of 33 days annually, includes statutory holidays. Holiday entitlement increases after three years’ service.

JOB ACTIVITIES

  1. Manage the delivery of NGA’s face to face training offer

Management of the administration and delivery of NGA’s face to face training offer, including NGA’s Leading Governance Programmes and NGA’s governor training with partners

  • Implement delivery of any additional training that NGA secures
  • Manage and implement processes to ensure a quality service is provided including booking venues, delivery of materials, booking of facilitators and booking of attendees
  • Ensure there are a minimum number of delegates on each programme to make it viable
  • Work with the Business Development Team to ensure sessions are marketed to appropriate areas
  • Manage any funding or scholarship claims that are available for training
  • Liaise with the business development team, clients and partners to scope exact service requirements
  1. Manage delivery of NGA’s e-learning service, Learning Link
  • Day to day management of the administration and delivery of NGA’s e-learning service offered via Learning Link,
  • Work with NGA’s delivery partner, Virtual College, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of Learning Link
  • Ensure processes are in place and being followed to support delivery of a strong e-learning service
  • Make recommendations on how to continue to improve delivery of Learning Link including amends to the LMS
  • Implement any recommendations to improve delivery of Learning Link
  • Work with the Business Development Manager to ensure an effective handover of new clients
  • Act as Learning Link “champion” within NGA by disseminating information about the system and its functionality to all staff
  1. Ensure NGA’s training services are delivered within budgets set and good financial forecasting
  • Oversee profit and loss and cash flow for training services
  • Deliver all training services within set budgets
  • Ensure all training cohorts that are delivered are financially viable
  • Ensure strong process are in place to allow for good financial forecasting for training services
  • Working with the finance team ensure up to date financial record keeping for training service
  • Complete monthly budget forecasts for training service delivery to be shared with Business Development Director
  1. Manage training delivery to ensure an efficient and effective service is delivered to governors and partners
  • Suggest and make changes to delivery models in order to deliver an efficient and effective service
  • Manage all pre-event planning for training sessions
  • Implement required changes to systems and processes
  • Manage courseware version control and archiving of courseware for all courses
  • Efficiently manage the allocation and administration of the NGA Facilitators used to deliver training.
  • Ensure excellent customer relations with governors and partners
  • Develop robust management information to report on progress
  • Report on delivery and progress to senior teams as appropriate
  • Liaise with business development team, clients and partners to scope exact and client and event requirements
  1. To contribute to the continued improvement and development of NGA's training services
  2. Review systems and processes with recommendations to ensure quality of service and effectiveness in relation to all aspects of the role
  3. Make recommendations on how to continue to improve delivery of Learning Link including amends to the LMS
  4. Liaise with the Marketing team regarding training programme promotions
  1. Line manage the Training Administrator
  • Line manage the Training Administrator to ensure training services are delivered to a high standard
  • Manage any ad hoc temporary admin support for training service to support delivery
  • Manage the Training Administrator to ensure they appropriately research venues, suppliers and contractors, and negotiate prices and terms of hire
  • Manage the Training Administrator to ensure they coordination the booking of suppliers and Facilitators including event logistics (eg. venue, IT facilities, client and delegate communications, parking, catering)
  • Ensure the Training Administrator is prioritising tasks effectively and following correct processes
  • Manage the Training Administrator to ensure accuracy and attention to detail and promptness with all logistics, administration and communications
  • Ensure the Training Administrator’s skill set is used to best effect
  1. Be an active member of NGA
  • Contribute to staff meetings, regional meetings, national conferences, promoting the organisation, maintaining, in liaison with other members of staff, the collection and storage of resource material,working within and supporting NGA’s policies and procedures and undertaking other reasonable duties required by line manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Training Services Manager

ESSENTIAL:

Knowledge and Experience

  • Operational experience of managing training based contracts or of project management
  • Experience of building relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • Experience of managing budgets and delivering against set budgets
  • Experience of managing courseware and learning content
  • Experience of the administration or management of e-learning software and systems and digital training delivery
  • Experience of the administering or managing a learning management system for delivery of training and for supporting customer bookings
  • Management of operational performance against targets

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant industry experience

Skills and abilities
