Job Title: National Domestic Violence Hotline President

FLSA Status: Exempt

General Position Purpose Statement

The President provides leadership and oversight to all activities and initiatives of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline and ensures all strategies and operations are victim-centered. The President reports directly to the CEO, working collaboratively in the development and implementation of Hotline/Helpline goals and objectives. The President is responsible for providing leadership and overall administration for Hotline/Helpline objectives and ensures the achievement of long and short-term strategic and financial management goals.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsible for communicating and soliciting feedback about Hotline and Helpline’s missions and operational vision to and from key stakeholders and constituent groups.
  • Coordinates with CEO to build and maintain positive working relationships with the 50 state domestic violence coalition programs, national domestic violence organizations and institutes such as NRC, Asian Pacific Islander, African American, Tribal communities and other organizations serving the needs of historically underserved/unserved victims of domestic violence.
  • Acts as the public face of NDVH, provides testimonies and delivers keynote speeches and presentations on issues facing victims of domestic violence and services provided by NDVH/NTDAH to various audiences.Responsible for the overall performance, evaluation and success of Hotline/Helpline services.
  • Responsible for supporting and at times leading NDVH fundraising efforts and initiatives as directed and in partnership with the CEO, Chief Development Officer and agency development staff. Identifies, involves, educates and cultivates corporate and individual major prospects. Solicits and stewards major individual and corporate donations, providing recognition and accountability to donors.
  • Responsible for collaborating with national policy groups and the CEO in the development and implementation of legislative and regulatory plans and approaches that support NDVH/NTDAH missions and goals. Manages various federal policy priorities, serving as the liaison with the legislative and executive branches at the federal level.
  • Responsible for the overall performance, evaluation and success of Hotline/Helpline services.
  • Collaborates with the CEO and NDVH Board of Directors in developing, establishing and evaluating progress toward strategic long and short term goals.
  • Oversees NDVH Board activity in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Prioritizes program and operational initiatives to meet strategic goals and objectives.
  • Effectively guides Hotline/Helpline management and employees in carrying out overallgoals and priorities.
  • Advises CEO of changing working environments and collaborates with CEO in establishing changes to strategic goals and/or changes in NDVH/NTDAH operations or objectives.
  • In partnership with the CEO, analyzes and advocates for domestic violence resources, creates strong working partnerships, build networks of services and/or options that positively influence the lives and families affected by domestic violence.
  • Selects, directs, develops and reviews performance of assigned staff. Takes disciplinary action, including termination, in accordance with established procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrates problem resolution techniques that promote positive working relationships and strengthens internal and external relationships and promotes effective team building.
  • Ensures and maintains credibility for NDVH/NTDAH operations with funders and the general public by ensuring timely dissemination of relevant information to constituents and accurate reporting of fiscal and programmatic activities to NDVH funders and donors.
  • Ensures the development of timely and accurate analysis and reports on NDVH activities, budgets, project proposals and general business trends and activities as requested.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added and/or changed at the CEO’s discretion.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

  • Strong background working to end violence against women at the national and/or state level with thorough knowledge of the issues and circumstances faced by those experiencing domestic violence. Experience working for or in collaboration with a domestic violence hotline required.
  • Minimum of ten years related experience, including five years leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit and/or government setting, including providing services to individuals affected by violence against women, fundraising, and working with a board of directors.
  • Minimum of three years experience cultivating donors and forging partnerships with corporations, foundations and individuals. Proven ability of achieving fundraising targets of $500-$1 million annually from non-governmental sources.
  • High level of communication and persuasive skills, with excellent public speaking skills, to make high-impact presentations that promote Hotline/Helpline vision and programs to the media, constituent groups and large audiences.
  • Leadership skills to guide the Hotline/Helpline in responding to changing environments and to develop the organizational climate required to implement new models of operation.
  • Critical analytical skills to understand the political, social, financial and external issues affecting victims of domestic violence; to foresee and interpret trends and the dynamic changing needs of those NDVH serves and; to develop processes and resources to respond effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Extensive knowledge of all facets of the legislative, regulatory and political processes and the functioning of the federal government is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with officials at the highest levels of government and experience working on policy and legislation related to violence against women at the national and/or state level.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic plan activities and tasks in alignment with goals and objectives. Strong team building and leadership skills to effectively manage Hotline/Helpline activities through vision, strategic planning and expertise.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to elicit commitment to and advancement of the Hotline and Helpline missions, vision and goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in budgeting and program development, implementation, evaluation and measurement, fundraising and public advocacy.
  • Demonstrated high integrity and fiduciary responsibility in managing resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under tight and/or changing timelines; disciplined time management skills to coordinate and prioritize own and other’s activities, evaluate programmatic progress and provide feedback; and to reallocate resources to complete activities within set deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Human Services or Business Administration or related field preferred or any combination of related education and experience with a document record of the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. (Equivalency formula: two years of experience is equal to one year of education.)
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Other Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Ability to read, write and converse in English, to travel 50% or more of time and tolerate prolonged sitting or standing. Must have emotional and physical stamina to deal with a variety of stressful situations, including responses to complaints and internal and external interactions, to effectively work long and at times odd hours, while maintaining a sense of humor.
