Job Title: ASPIRE Exhibition and Learning Assistant (Trainee)

Reporting to: Exhibitions Officer

Working with: Exhibitions Officer, Museum Director, Marketing and Administration Officer, Volunteers, Placements, Learning Project Officer, Volunteer Co-ordinator, Development Officer, Finance Officer.

Purpose:

The ASPIRE Exhibition and Learning Assistant will work the Exhibitions Officer for Salisbury Museum, with the aim of supporting the delivery of our 2016 Constable exhibition (17 September 2016 – 25 March 2017), as part of the ASPIRE project.

Main Duties and responsibilities:

Within the traineeship you will have the opportunity to:

1. Research how Salisbury Cathedral has been depicted in art from 17th century through to the present day.

2. Explore the wider links between Constable, the artwork and artists he encountered in Wiltshire, and the dialogue between them.

3. Assist with fulfilling the aims of the Aspire project and the associated activity programme which aims to establish a national network for Constable studies through displays, learning and participatory events.

4. Familiarise yourself with relevant policies, project plans, reports and schedules associated with the Aspire programme to date.

5. Help devise a storyline for the exhibition which will inform the content and loan requirements.

6. Help compile a loans request list, including loans from national organisations, independent museums and private collections, as appropriate.

7. Develop marketing material for the exhibition, including the development of posters, leaflets and press releases in collaboration with the museum’s Marketing and Admin Officer.

8. Assist with the development and delivery of an events, learning and outreach programme for the exhibition.

9. Support the development of exhibition-related learning resources for the exhibition with the Learning and Outreach Officer and Exhibitions Officer.

10. Contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of the exhibition and associated events and activities.

11. Help promote the exhibition to local schools, colleges and hard-to-reach groups.

12. Work alongside volunteers and placements in the implementation of the exhibition.

13. Promote equality and diversity in all areas of work within and outside the

museum, in line with legislation and museum policy.

ASPIRE Exhibition and Learning Assistant (trainee)

Conditions of Service

1 Salary £16,000 per annum (£8,000 pro rata)

2. Contract 6 months fixed term contract

3 Commencement As soon as practicable

4 Hours Full-time - 35 hours per week.

5 Location Salisbury, Wiltshire.

6 Leave 21 days per annum (pro rata) in addition to Bank and Public

Holidays.

The leave year runs from the month of commencement of employment.

7 Probation There will be an initial probationary period of three months during which time the successful candidate and the Museum will establish their suitability to each other. The Museum reserves the right to extend the probationary period to six months in exceptional circumstances.

8 Pension The museum can arrange access to a pension scheme.

9 Termination The appointment may be terminated by either side upon two month's notice.

10 Mileage allowance Authorised car journeys will be reimbursed at the appropriate rate paid by the Wiltshire Council.

11 Sick pay Normal pay will be paid up to 4 weeks in any period of 12 months provided medical certificates are provided where appropriate and Statutory Sick Pay provisions will apply.

12 Medical fitness Appointment is subject to satisfactory medical fitness. A confidential questionnaire on medical history will be required before appointment is finally confirmed.

13 Qualifications Evidence of qualifications (if necessary) will be required of the

successful candidate.
