Patient Group Meeting

Minutes
In attendance: Barbara Duffner (Deputy Chair), Jean Elliott (JE), Steve Harvey (SH), Sarah Sinclair (SS), Gordon Cunningham (GC), Doctor Andrew Goldie (AG) and Donald Stewart (DS)
1. Introduction. The chair opened the meeting by thanking everyone for attending.
2. Apologies. Greg Lindsay (GL) and Beth Anderson (BA).
3. Minutes from previous meeting and matters arising. Nil of note.
4. Anne Swan (Chair) – Six month break from group. As informed in the email sent by DS of 6th July, Anne has stated she needs to take a break from the group due to other commitments. She will review the decision at the end of the six-month period. It was agreed the Deputy Chair will chair the meetings in the interim.
5. Proposed Planning Application – Residential Development. The application by Gladman Developments for a residential development of up to 300 houses in Boghall Road Biggar and its effect on the practice was discussed as follows:
· DS stated that as the development is in our catchment area we would have no choice but to register any future residents that request to join our list
· We would need to ensure the Health Board increase the accommodation capacity of the health centre to enable the practice to provide services to its patients
· The Deputy Chair will write to the locality manager to chase up promised improvements
6. Points from the practice:
a. NHS Cyber attack and safety of patient data. DS updated the meeting on the recent Cyber attack shown in the bullet points below. It was agreed that an article should be included in the newsletter.
· The practice IT systems were not subject to an attack
· The down time of practice computers was a precautionary measure taken by NHS Lanarkshire to protect our system
· The practice has robust backup procedures:
o Each evening all data is backed up onto tapes and the data is encrypted
o There are daily, weekly and monthly tapes which are stored in a secure fire proof safe
b. Recruitment – New GP. DS informed the meeting that Doctor Ross Stewart is starting at the practice on the 1st September 2017 as a GP Partner and will work a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week. This is a slight increase of current sessions but is mainly to replace sessions reduced by other doctors.
7. Review current and set future Action Points and Goals.
a. Patient Group Survey – Doctor First Triage. The final report produced by SS was reviewed and extracts for the newsletter agreed.
b. Patient Group Newsletter. SS will email DS with amended newsletter to be formatted in the normal booklet style.
c. Defibrillator and First Aid Training. BD will obtain an update from Tom on training carried out to date. Training events are advertised on the Biggar Community Facebook page.
d. First Responders Scheme. DS to chase ambulance response stats that were previously requested.
e. Public Event. To be discussed at the next meeting.
8. Future guest attendees. It was agreed that as the Biggar Dental Centre has not took up our offers to attend one of our meetings, DS will invite a representative of the new dental centre to attend.

9. Any other business.
a. It was agreed that due to non availability of members the meeting scheduled for September would not be held, therefore the next meeting would be on the 17th October 2017.
