COMPUTER TRAINING
This educational program provides the community with open computer access, and provides
individuals with general computer skills through classroom and individual instruction.
Specific attention is directed toward Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
applications. Lab is open from 10:00 am- 6:00 pm. Hours vary for each class.
Eligibility and fees: There are no restrictions in program eligibility and no previous
computer experience is required. Fees are dependent upon the course taken and
scholarships are available to eligible students.
HEALTH SERVICES
Free Clinic of Our Towns
A medical program that provides primary care to uninsured and under-insured individuals
residing in North Mecklenburg and South Iredell counties. Services provided include health
assessments, physician services, diagnosis and treatment for illnesses, health education,
nutritional educations, referral support, and flu vaccinations. No obstetrician services are
available. The clinic is offered every Thursday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM.
Eligibility and fees: Must live in the North Mecklenburg or South Iredell. Patients are seen
first come, first served basis and there is no fee for this service.
Free Dental Project
A program that provides free dental care to low-income families without dental insurance in
the community. Services provided include dental examinations, treatment, dental charting,
and instruction on proper dental hygiene. The program is offered the second and fourth
Wednesday of each month from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the Huntersville First Baptist Church.
Eligibility and fees: To be eligible, patients must be residents of North Mecklenburg or
South Iredell counties and have no dental insurance or
Medicaid. Patients must first be seen by a dental screening at 6:30 PM
on the second or fourth Wednesday before an appointment can be
scheduled for a later date
Parish Nurse Services
A program through which a registered nurse promotes wellness, provides health education
and counseling, advocates for clients, connects individuals with appropriate community
resources, and integrates the faith –health relationship. This service is available by
appointment Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Other times may be
available as needed.
Eligibility and fees: Available to residents of North Mecklenburg and South Iredell
counties. No fee, except for some screenings and flu vaccinations.
LATINO SUPPORT SERVICES
This program provides translation and general support to the Latino community. Services
include translation, interpretation, counseling, problem solving, and advocacy. A brief
assessment of the client’s situation is required to receive assistance. The program is
available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM; and Wednesday and
Friday from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
Eligibility and fees: Available to residents of North Mecklenburg and South Iredell
counties. No fee for this service.
LIFE COMPASS PROGRAM
This program provides a social worker to assist individuals in achieving the highest level of
self-sufficiency possible. Referrals and case management services are available in the areas
of education, health, housing, transportation, and employment. Limited financial assistance
is available. The program is available by appointment weekdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
with evening appointments available as needed.
Eligibility and fees: Available to residents of North Mecklenburg and South Iredell
counties. An assessment of the client’s situation by the social worker is required.
LOAVES AND FISHES
This program provides one week’s worth of groceries for families in the surrounding area.
The food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM, and on Fridays from
10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
Eligibility and fees: Community members can obtain a referral at the center or be referred
by other agencies. Families can only receive groceries once every 60 days.
LYDIA’S LOFT
This off-site program provides clothing to low-income families in the Lake Norman area.
Families must obtain a referral at the Ada Jenkins Center, at which time directions will be
given to the location in Huntersville.

A financial assistance program for eligible individuals. There is no medical assistance with
this program. This unit is located at the Health Department.
Eligibility: Iredell County residents; must have been denied disability based on Social
Security standards, but must meet disability definition for this group; must meet income and
asset guidelines; ages 18-64.

affordable place to live. Houses built with volunteer labor, some materials donated, nointerest,
no-profit loans are made. Home owners help build home in hopes of developing
pride and self esteem in order to become productive in the community.
Eligibility: Low income Iredell County adults who do not qualify for conventional loans, but
have acceptable credit; $500 down payment, monthly house payments from $270-$350 if
accepted; 300-500 volunteer hours must be spent working on purchaser’s home; no fee to
apply
