PET ROCK PROJECT

During this unit you will be learning just about everything there is to know about rocks, minerals, and the rock cycle through hard work and research. Now you have an even greater task to complete: you have to take care of your very own pet rock. Now you will have to tell us all about your rock, where it was born, what its parents look like, what it likes to do, etc. You will use all the information you have learned to make these entries as accurate as possible, but you can also have some fun with this activity.

1. Completing the Pet Rock Certificate. (10 points): Complete the “Birth Certificate” handed out in class.

2. Completing your Pet Rock Diary. (10 points):Let us know the daily events of your Pet Rock. What are its daily requirements (ie: what does it eat, how does it keep itself clean and polished, etc.) and how does it spend a typical day? Please include morning, afternoon, and evening events.

3. Family tree (10 pts): Complete a family tree showing the relatives of your rock. Give them names and draw pictures of each, including of your rock. Make sure you mention what types of rocks or materials they are and how they made your rock into the type of rock it is today.

4. Journey through the Rock Cycle (10 pts): Write a story explaining what you think will happen to your rock after it is no longer in your care. Make sure you make it creative, but that you reference the rock cycle as well!

5. Presenting your Pet Rock to the class. (5 points): We want to meet and hear all about your Pet Rock. Share your Pet Rock, along with its certificate, care manual, family tree, and journey through the rock cycle.

EXTRA CREDIT: Take a snap shot of your Pet Rock doing something exciting! This is worth 5 extra points!!
